Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.8/100, a mean average of 78.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.8.

I must say it didn’t really sit with me. Definitely some interesting things going on in terms of structure, but at a certain point the dissonance becomes too much to parse through

Seminal jazz/sax album. Excellent composition and playing. Music marvelously has one foot in each world: traditional and progressive, and really pulls out off.

Definitely ot what I was expecting, but an interesting listen nonetheless. I thought this was some sort of hard-bop album, but its quite the avante-garde/free jazz record instead. I'm not really digging the vibraphone sound right now, but I'm sure it will grow on me

Dolphy can do anything on this record. A great place to start if you're looking to get into jazz.

A wonderfully quirky jazz album. Out to lunch, is a classic with great tunes and excellent instrumentation with Bobby Hutcherson's vibes the icing on the cake to this superb LP. Still sounds like nothing else. Extraordinary.

This record's really the epitome of hard-bop, even as it stretches the boundaries of the genre into something approaching true avant-garde while still often keeping the boundaries of familiar jazz, resulting in a crucial listen.
