Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.3/100, a mean average of 74.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

Written at ages 18 and 19, Conor Oberst gives us a big taste of what's to come in his future work. Fevers and Mirrors introduces listeners in Conor Oberst's seemingly miserable beginning to college. The album is highly symbolic (some would argue overly so) with many illusions to time. I'm disappointed that many write this album off as sophomoric or immature in comparison to later works like "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning". This album will suck you into Oberst's sadness spiral and will spit you out feeling a deep appreciation for his ability to communicate his emotions and feelings so strong. You will feel the pain he must have felt when we swallowed a fistful of pills in Chicago years back. "Something Vague" is my favourite Bright Eyes with other standouts being "Haligh" and "The Calendar Hung Itself". This is one of the best records of the 2000's.

The great “ I’m Awake It’s Morning “ would be another 5 years away and it shows. I found this album quite rough production wise and nothing special. Skip this one and jump straight into “ I’m Awake “ .

Indie folk really can be unpleasant. Fevers And Mirrors is difficult but undeniably interesting; the overly-repetitive symbolism and imagery is made up for by Oberst's delivery of raw and wavering vocals. He exploits his talents by focusing in on some near-indigestible anxieties through what is largely genius lyric writing. Good album if you want to be depressed and confused, bad album for parties.

It was at that instant that something broke inside of him and left his soul fractured forever more.
