...Off The Bone by The Cramps

I like surf rock, rockabilly, and punk, but had never heard 'psychobilly' before. This is a really cool comp. The energy and instrumentals are great. I like how it's ominous and frantic throughout but mostly eschews the shock value of graphic violence (the big exception, cover "The Crusher", is easily the worst track). 3.5/5.

2. Still nothing I've heard of. That Bobby Conn album sounds interesting.

Rise Up! by Bobby Conn

A satirical album by a pseudo performance artist from Chicago. Jim O Rourke handles production and some guitar, which elevates this album to a higher level. It's good quirky stuff, that is right up my alley. If you want something fun to listen to, with a wide sound palette, then this is a good option.

This song does a good job of showcasing what this album's about.

After listening to this album again my thoughts have stayed the same. An excellent R&B/Pop album that still holds up for almost 20 years. Producers like Static Major and Timberland add these futuristic and intoxicating beats over Aaliyah's smooth vocals. Now is it her best? Well I did think her second album from 1996 musically more full than this as well as if she didn't pass away back in 2001 would her hypothetical records be better than this by expanding the sound this record delve into. Otherwise this is one of my favorite records for 2001.
Grade wise:90

Hymn To The Immortal Wind by Mono

Is this "crescendocore" post-rock without a lot of originality? Yes. Does it sound great? Also yes. A very satisfying blend of noisy guitars and nods to classical. I can see why it would be someone's #1. 4/5.

2. Again, have heard none, but this one interests me most:

Confield by Autechre

Ooh! challenge accepted!!!
I hadn't heard Parrallel Lines before so listened to it today, and I can see why it could be considered the best new wave album of 1978. Consistently great songs all the way through...however for me personally being a fan of Devo at the time, owning the CD so having heard it a bit, and having a post punk background in my musical appreciation, gives Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! the edge...just. Worthy challenger though ๐Ÿ˜

Now back to the scheduled program.

Destroyer by Kiss

I was not a fan of Kiss at the time and have never really liked them since. Despite some of their qualities, like the over the top theatrics, and basic but catchy music, being things I often like in a band, this time it bores me a bit. I found this an inconsistent album with the only songs I liked being the even more over the top than usual for Kiss - God Of Thunder, and Beth where they at least tried something a bit different. And Shout It Out Loud is no Rock and Roll All Nite in my opinion. 6/10.

Baystate: I get why people wouldn't like it, but Damaged is a hardcore punk classic, and an old favourite of mine.

Damaged by Black Flag

I've only heard 8 albums from this chart, and most of those were due to the Get To Know thread, so lot's to explore here from outside my usual zone.

Tilly's greatest all time albums (5 picks)

6. Townes Van Zandt by Townes Van Zandt
7. Victorialand by Cocteau Twins
8. Blue Afternoon by Tim Buckley
9. Nocturne by Wild Nothing
10. Cluster & Eno by Cluster & Eno
13. The Letting Go by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy
14. Just Another Diamond Day by Vashti Bunyan
15. Bert Jansch by Bert Jansch
17. Bloom by Beach House
18. Judee Sill by Judee Sill

I had never heard Parallel Lines either!! So I listened like three times yesterday, and it is indeed awesome a very worthy challenger.

My Top 5 New Wave albums of 1978 goes like this...

1. Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? ( A perfect 10!)
2. Elvis Costello - This Year's Model (Another Perfect 10)
3. The Cars - s/t (9.5)
4. Nick Lowe - Jesus of Cool ( 9.4 & MASSIVELY underrated)
5. Blondie - Parallel Lines (9.3, total classic. Love the 60s girl group nods which were such an important part of early punk.)

Disclaimer: I do NOT consider 70s Talking Heads New Wave AT ALL.

Destroyer was were everything went wrong for Kiss. They were on such a hot streak too. Their first three albums are an amazing intersection of New York Dolls glammed up proto-punk and hard rock. And then they truly became charicatures of themselves. Comic book cutouts. Over-produced merchandise for the kids.

Check out their debut some time (or their live album Alive!) ...

Kiss by Kiss

That's easily their best and would easily make my 70s decade chart.

Revisiting this album again makes me understand why I adore Autechre as a duo. Making albums future proof by going into the deep end and making cryptic tunes that mix glitch and IDM that sound alien but feels like witnessing a trip that we will never experience in our life time. If there was a complaint with this album it would be that the opener while great does take a bit to start the journey off. But when you get to track 2 up until the end, Confield while not the most relentless album in there discography gives you less room to breath and more times if not will melt your brain while will have you thinking how the fuck can this duo do this. And keep in mind Autechre will not only make other albums that are abstract in sound with albums like Draft 7.30 and Untilted back in the 2000's but from the 2010's they will not make there sounds more challenging but also will expand there lengths from 2013's Exai that's 2 hours but will brings us to the NTS Sessions which is 8 hours.

Grade wise: I thought this could have been a 90 but after listening to this, this is a 95 up to a 100 and going into my top 10 for this year.
