Before I start this review, I am somewhat flattered that an album gets described as a usual type of album. So I thank you Pash and am glad you enjoyed it as well as hoping it grows on you even further on in life. Also for the Venetian Snares album, while many prefer the album that mixes drum and bass/break beat with classical my choice from his 2000's material would be Meathole. Though that though needs to be solidified with a second listen. Now onto the mini analysis.

This was so good. One of the best albums for 2001. But let's venture further. Now if there was a complaint for this album, it would be its introduction. While the vocals do portray feeling old as well as being defeated in life, musically the song feels lacking. It sounds in tune of old school blues but doesn't sounds like it pushes it forward while staying in its past. And I got concerned about since I felt that this record could had been boring and simple. However this album unlike the last album actually kicks into high gear in Track 2 and continues to go on till the last track. For one, the production of this album feels like a stylistic choice where it sounds huge but also warned down. There is an a balance of having elements of pristine but also lofi production. Second, the songs themselves have these guitar riffs that are catchy drum beats that are steady and the vibe fits like a glove in being in the south of rural America. And lastly, Buddy Guy's performance throughout is so good. Not only does his voice just works in the blues blueprint, but also has soul and grit.
So yeah I do love this a lot. Now I do want to point out that for anyone that wants to listen to this, I do need to point out that there are a few songs that are quite long. Track 2 is 7 minutes and Track 7 is 12 minutes long. So depending what user listens to this, this might be a point for critiquing it. Otherwise for me, I love this. And I'm quite curious to see how his other works hold up. I looked up that his 2005 album has both Tracy Chapman and Anthony Hamilton are guests on that album. So I'm quite curious how that sounds.

I went through ridiculous lengths to listen to this pretty good album.
The best songs mixed some eastern influences with 80s new ageish/minimal stuff. For those of you that played along with my "Get To Know You" some reminded me a bit of that Steve Tibbetts album. The worst was just really bland, or not as well-written as some of the other tracks. There seemed to be an attempt at a more poppy sound on two tracks, which did not work.
BTW, you might have heard of this guy's father, Mikis Theodorakis, who is one of the more famous Greek songwriters/composers.
Luigii, not my favorite Mogwai, but give it a shot.

The instrumentals and song structures on this album are pretty straightforward, nothing mind-bending. So it lives and dies on Folds' songwriting. And mostly, it lives. There are a bunch of great songs, and a bunch more good ones. Some are poignant, others sarcastic. Nothing on this album is bad. It's a good time. 3.5/5.

Given the high, high acclaim for Since I Left You, and the huge gulf of time separating it and Wildflower, I had to listen to the debut for context.
This recommendation came at a great time, because I've had both Endtroducing and Madvilliany on deck for days now (things keep cutting in line), so it plays nicely with my near queue, while broadening my scope a bit more. I guess the only analog I have for this beforehand is Donuts, and perhaps what DOOM I've gone through, though that was all vocal (I'm gonna be all over his instrumental Special Herbs series, at some point soon). But, this is obviously something more than what lurks behind DOOM's raps. The music here ranges from playful and joyous, to transcendental and super-sapient. There were literal miracles happening inside my ears, at times. This album is so, so warm, and so, so good.
Now for a word on Wildflower. ๐ The album starts off a little shaky with "Because I'm Me" and especially "Frankie Sinatra". Half of me wants to love that track...the other half doesn't. But, things really started to pick up with "If I Was A Folkstar", and they started to hold real steady by "The Noisy Eater". I won't say that it's as remarkable as the more sample-laden Since I Left You, but it was still a quality play.
I kind of understand why you might have been hard on it, Purple. A lot of these tracks could pass you right by if you're not paying attention, and I imagine you didn't like "Frankie Sinatra" (and I don't think I could blame you, but I could see that track improving with time). Spin it again when you can.
I'm half giddy, half terrified to sample this chart. I'll be walking a fine line with some of these...hopefully that line isn't drawn yet.

Face Stabber by Thee Oh Sees
Well this one was quite excellent. I'm not gonna lie, it's a bit long and challenging at times, and Henchlock should've been 5 minutes shorter, but this thing kicks some major ass. A big jam session is what comes to mind, but the songs are still well structured and melodies memorable. It has that krautrock Can/Neu sound at times, where there's a long improvisation and solo over a cool melody, but mostly on a much smaller scale than Can's epics. Which is good because Thee Oh Sees are more song-oriented than a jam band after all. It certainly takes more than 3 listens to understand it fully, but for now it's 8.5/10

Spot on Jameth. I disliked both Frankie Sinatra and Because I'm Me at first but now I really enjoy both. Frankie especially has gone from annoying to a fun song that just puts me in a great mood when I hear it on the radio or on a playlist. Silly songs normally go the other way - fun at first but annoying after a while - so credit to that.
It's like a music making software program got free will, took a fuckload of speed in the middle of an acid trip and made an album. Insane!
I honestly don't know what to make of this and if I like it or not. 7/10 and 14/15 for 2008.

It's nice to have some guitar-based drone/ambient. At points it reminds me of some Roy Montgomery or early Stars of the Lid. Post-Rocky at times. Also, listening to the cassette version of music like this always helps, because it just adds to the sound for some reason. Ambient always sounds great on tape. I will have to listen to some of their other albums, because this one was great.
Purple, I liked Strawberry Jam more than I thought I would.

The first Zappa album I've heard with vocals. It is more listenable than I worried it might be. It has a bunch of really good songs, and a bunch of mediocre or half-baked ones. But this album's strength is that it's never dull, even when it's not that good. The 2:1 ratio of sarcastic rock songs to experimental noodlings works well. Apparently some people find the lyrics funny, but I didn't crack a smile. Overall, slightly more positives than negatives. 3/5.
