Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 76.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.2.

Best concert of 2023 - Ben played the new album and then played most of this album. A master showman of controling the audience - between keeping the tears in with the Luckiest and Still Fighting It - to singing along with the Stan. It quickly jumped over my other favorite Folds albums to become the fav.
A great blend of fun, playful tunes along with much more sobering, mature work. Ben Folds is much more cohesive here than on his other albums, bringing pop and much more rock to the album overall. Start with this album if you're getting into him. The Luckiest is a freakin legendary song.
Best Tracks: Ascent of Stan, The Luckiest, Annie Waits, Fired, Still Fighting It
A fun thoughtful album and BF’s best work
Folds plays (almost) every instrument on here and it somehow comes out sounding tighter than any Ben Folds Five record (the talented git). The title track is an absolutely hilarious bit of satire, he could have done well as a standup comedian in the vain of Tim Minchin or Bo Burnham. Other highlights include the touching Still Fighting It, and the pulverizing Gone.
Good to see Ben get on a list
This is much more mature than Ben Folds other offerings, but it still maintains the playfulness of his earlier work. Good album.
"You Better Watch Out Because I'm Gonna Say Fuck"
He shows off a lot of the same playfulness as on the first couple BF5 albums, but with less brashness. I also think he's trying to recreate the "underground" magic with the title track making fun of the nu-metal-heads. (i'm sure glad that fad's passed.) A lot of sweetness on this made-for-AC radio album, including "the luckiest".
One of the greatest albums ever! This album is original, deep, funny, bright and well worth a listen.
If you haven't heard anything by this guy get this now! I hadn't an idea what to expect from this, never heard a song from him before. A lot of solid tunes on here. Great pop album! Still Fighting It, Gone, The Ascent of Stan and title track were the best.
