I love this album.
Not everything he made was classic, but this certainly was.
For me, i like to review how this master piece was created.
i find it very interesting.
in the 1970's bruce released greetings from ashbury park and the wild innocent and the e street shuffle(A+).
both incredible albums. from the early productions, you knew Bruce was special. he had a gift.
Then he creates Born to run in 1974 (many state he saved rock and roll with this album- a bit far fetched but stated never the less), darkness on the edge of town in 78(for me, his best production - more guitar and aggressiveness without the strong influence/musicianship of the other band members)
2 masterpieces, and then the river in 1980. everything he touched, turned to platinum 10x.
at the time, Columbia records were making a fortune. they demanded more records with the same formula that was making Bruce so successful.
They wanted to fill the wheel barrows with more money.
and that's when Bruce did the unexpected.
He created Nebraska. solo. folk. rock. No E street band members- they are MIA.
Music about the man on the street. Ordinary, down on their luck blue collar characters who face a challenge or a turning
point in their lives.
Atlantic city=- dark, painful voice of bruce on the acoustic!!!!
the harmonica in the song Nebraska is spectacular. His ability to play harmonica shines on this album.
johnny 99- he stretches his vocal abilities with howling
highway patrolman- what a song about brother Frankie. we all have one in the family.
mansion on the hill, used cars, my fathers house, reason to believe----not a weak song on this album.
all previous albums exuded energy, youth, optimism and joy.
this album is filled with dark lyrical content, has a mood of sadness, grace and redemption.
there was a period of 10-15 years whereby everything Bruce touched turned to gold.
truly a spectacular album from a kid from new jersey who wasn't born with a silver spoon.
the american dream is still possible!!
