I really enjoyed this album. Both easily listenable and interesting. Some funky new wave elements that I enjoyed. A few great songs, the opening track, Indiscipline, and Thela Hun Ginjeet, and the rest are all good. This is the sort of album I could listen to more and I'm sure it would get better with each listen as I hear new things and familiarise myself more with each song. For now it's an 8/10, and 16/22...and is it wrong that after one listen I like it more than In The Court of the Crimson King? Probably.
I would like to listen to Experimental Audio Research- The Kรถner Experiment

I held off listening to this because I assumed it would be 60+ minute behemoth. Turns out it's only 45 minutes and I feel silly.
I was familiar with RATM's debut and thought that while it has some good individual songs (especially Killing in the Name) it doesn't have enough variety to keep things interesting. I liked this one more, though I think it suffers from the same problem a bit. Despite that this is pretty enjoyable, I knew Sleep Now in the Fire already and like that one a lot, and I wouldn't say there's a song that stood out as bad. There are some nice funk elements and when there's a guitar part that's something other than a driving riff it's a treat. I give them credit for blending rap and metal in a way that sounds pretty natural. I'd just mostly prefer to listen to plain rap or metal though - while the mixture isn't bad I do think the instrumentals get a little tired because if you add too much complexity it would be hard to rap over.
This is my favorite of the couple I've heard from your list Purple, though it's not my favorite Echo & the Bunnymen album.

Hmm, another one that was underwhelming. This sounds like it would be an awesome collaboration, but I think the earlier albums from this group are supposed to be different.
Babyblue, I would go with Genesis.

Mental Vortex by Coroner
So this is the one of the 3 albums I was looking forward to the most from that RYM metal overall, the others being Through Silver In Blood and Lightning To The Nations. Their previous effort No More Color is one of the most unique thrash records of the 80s, and an incredible progressive and technical thrash statement. It also had elements of symphonic metal on the closing track, and some jazz-inspired drum passages as well as occasional noise/avant-garde parts. All around an excellent record, the songwriting is top notch too. Now enter Mental Vortex, their fourth album, and an even bigger departure from thrash/speed metal which was still very much present on No More Color. More progressive, a bit slower, prominent symphonic, classical and jazz elements and to be honest maybe even better songwriting. I do miss the ferociousness and great hooks of the predecessor, but they make up for it by writing more varied and longer songs. It's also not an instant classic like No More Color is, but it reveals its value over 2-3 listens. And trust me, it has so much to offer. I'm not gonna lie, every song was a standout except the closer. It ends with a frankly bizzare cover of what is possibly my favourite Beatles song, I Want You (She's So Heavy). I'm not sure I appreciated the vocals on this one, but the solos and even double kick at one point were great additions, confirming my theory that the Beatles in fact wrote a metal song. It does sound like a bonus track a bit, but it still makes for a solid ending. 9 or 9.5/10

Thanks Blue! This is the album I would have chosen for myself first. I was a fan of Echo & The Bunnymen in the '80s, and I listened to Songs to Learn and Sing a hell of a lot. I also had a few of their other albums, but never this one. Strangely I haven't listened to an album of theirs since joining BEA so until now they had no ratings from me on here. I know a fair few of these songs well already, with A Promise being my favourite, and the rest didn't disappoint. The title track and All My Colours are also great. Very good songs from one of the best post-punk bands of the time. 8/10, and 12/23 for 1981.

Of all the Genesis albums I've heard, this is probably the one that I've liked the most. Is it a bit overblown? Yeah. Are there some ridiculous lyrics? The nursery rhymes on the first track are pretty silly. But, is it better because of those things? For maybe the first time for this band, I'd say yes. Though there are a lot of symphonic elements here, it also has kind of a pastoral feel. Not like a folk album does, but it still feels like listening to a band in a park instead of going to see an orchestra or something. And while there's a lot of really technical playing, I enjoyed it more this time around. Maybe I'm just starting to come around to this stuff.
I'm not a big fan of the two albums I've heard from your list Purple, so instead I'll give you the one I'd be most interested in hearing.

The wack review on RYM are pretty entertaining to read. This is a techno album from 1996 that, at times, sounds like it's about a decade too early. I almost thought I was listening to Deepchord at some points. It's inconsistent as a whole, but it's not a bad album by any means. It's probably been the one I've liked the most from this list so far.
Babyblue, the Coltrane record is an easy listen.

I really liked self-titled, so I was moderately looking forward to this one, despite the ugly cover. The first song is pretty solid, but could have been better if it didn't majorly overstay its welcome. Next, Money For Nothing is just a bad song, and would be even if he hadn't dropped the f-slur three times. But my ears really perked up and I got a big goofy grin when I recognized Walk Of Life from rock radio and baseball games. It is a damn good song and easily the best on the album. Love the instrumental hook. And then... what happened lol? The remainder of the album is a soft, spacey snoozefest, starting with some serious smooth jazz vibes. Really aesthetically unappealing, underwritten, sparse in the wrong way, and a chore to get through. The title track brought a slight improvement, but it's nothing special. Not a single song from 4-10 was a true stinker, but together it was truly worse than the sum of its parts. 2.5/5.

This is the third album of his I've listened to now, and probably the best of the three, but only just. They were all good. I really enjoyed being a tourist, and despite not understanding much, getting lost in this musical world I don't come too often. 7.5/10, and 33/37 for 1987. (1987 is a strong year)
Vision Creation Newsun is my favourite of those Bay.
Now to move on to Baystate's '80s chart. For this one I am going to include albums I've heard before but not in the last five years, so I haven't rated them here, because including those there is fourteen albums, the perfect number for five picks.

Avant Garde opera is probably one of the most difficult things for me to listen to. Well, for most people to listen to. At an hour and twenty minutes in length as well, it's even more of a gauntlet. This work is a mixed bag because there are some obviously inspired and interesting things going on here musically, and it's even pleasant to listen to vocally, on occasion. However, it's just too much in the end. I feel like most of the creative musical ideas were used up somwhere in the first 20 minutes, and the bizarre operatics get to be tiresome by the end. If this were 40 minutes, I wouldn't mind it so much, but I just felt exhausted by it's conclusion.
Purple, Technique has a few of my favorite New Order songs on it.
