Roberta Flack is a good piano player with a beautiful voice, and her Billboard #1 debut album finds her performing a set that consists almost entirely of conservatively arranged ballads. The first track "Compared To What" is the biggest exception and by far the album's standout. The lack of variety in pacing is my main complaint, because the individual tracks are frequently gorgeous, but it blends together a bit. A very good album that I wanted to love, but it didn't have quite enough highlights. 3.5/5.

2. I've heard the third album in the trilogy and it's solid, so try this one:
6. The Confessions Tour - Madonna
11. Bad Girls - Donna Summer
13. ใใฉใใใใฏ ใใฉใใใ (Platonic Planet) - KOTO
14. Fever - Kylie Minogue
17. Tommy Airline - Tommy February6
18. Once Upon A Time - Donna Summer
20. Control - Janet Jackson
22. We Are Family - Sister Sledge
23. Rita Lee - Rita Lee
25. Overpowered - Rรณisรญn Murphy _________________ Join us in the canon game :) / Add me on RYM
This was great. I am quite interested if the beginning as well as the end if this trilogy are more compelling than this. Because if I will get my positives and negatives, positive wise I do enjoy the energy of the album. The band are very proficient with working together. Do like how some tracks transition into one another and the bit of risk taking. That smooth jazz touch was something I wasn't expecting. But for negatives, I wouldn't say any track realistically wowed me. Either because I wanted something more dynamic or go more adventurous where the opener brought in those Arabic tones and have that as a theme to the project. I think those were Arabic, don't quote me on that. Otherwise a great album but not one of those high contenders for an all time favorite. Grade:85 and would be in the decent range.

This is the other album already on my charts that I know well and listened to a lot at the time but not for awhile (there is one other I have listened to a couple of times in 1990 but not since so it's not in my charts, and a couple I may or may not have heard before, I'm not sure). Honestly I had forgotten how good this album is. More mellower than his previous album Tender Prey, with a lot more piano and strings, looking back I think this album showed the direction he was mostly going to follow. Top quality song writing and superb vocals as always form Nick Cave. As well as great individual songs (especially the four "song" songs) the album works as a whole unit with it's sorrowful tone, gospel influence, and religious imagery throughout. As to the individual songs The Ship Song is a piece of beauty, and right up there as one of his best songs ever. The duet and back and forth with Blixa Bargeld on The Weeping Song works so well, and The Witness Song with it's fiery preacher type vocal performance is under rated - the lowest rated song from this album on BEA? Really? It is so much dark fun in it's own way and provides some nice relief in between the haunting Lament (another highlight), and the closer Lucy while still keeping in tone with the rest of the album.
Relistening to this album now after so much time has passed I realise I have seriously under valued it from just going by my dodgy memory, and I think it may now be my favourite Nick Cave album. Sure probably not his best, but my favourite. It's a rare 10/10 album for me, moves from #6 to #2 in my 1990 chart, from #53 to #16 in my decade chart, and enters my all time chart at #55.
I'm looking forward to your exploring 1977 Luigii. It's a great year for music. Anyway now listen to Adorable.

Once upon a time this was my favourite Nick Cave album, and it's still one that I play a lot. Great review. Shoutout to what is possibly Nick's best video, it's a peak 90s meme.
You know for a title called Against Perfection, I wouldn't be shocked if there was someone out there that will hold this album as an all time favorite and a 100 to that individual. That individual isn't me. (Got you there for a moment) But this is still great. Doesn't wow me as much compared to other albums. Especially where this album does delve into some shoegaze qualities even though it isn't as prominent. Could see this fit more of that rural scenic riding that the early 90's and possibly maybe late 80's. That making this quite enjoyable and wouldn't say there is a miss on this. Just not an album that excites me especially getting to the bottom of the wire for the top 100. Grade:85 Strong 8 range wise.

I'm excited for 1977 as well Pash. Now I'll pick Listening Without Prejudice. Still the only main George Michael album I need to listen to. And if I was to make a guess for you, this will probably be in that 6 or possible 7 range though I would be shocked if it was higher.

I had high hopes for this album, and while it doesn't quite meet them, most of these songs are great. Just a really fun, danceable record with great production and high-quality vocals. There are a couple misses with the songwriting, but nothing that derails the groove of the album. I expect it would be even better in a party setting. 4/5.

Starting of 1977 with not only one of the most successful albums ever but also a usual contender for one of the best albums ever. And while I do think this was a great album, I do have some hesitance with this album as the best album for this year. I could go into a bit of an argument where while I haven't done my due diligence of the 70's, listeners can find similar sounding albums that do more on an individualistic level. For me that would be Joni Mitchell's Hejira from 1976. I feel like that album hit that style of jazz rock/folk with a sound palette that sounds more dense and fulfilling to me. That's not to say Rumors don't hit those strides at all. Tracks like Dreams, Go On Your Way, You Make Loving Fun, Oh Daddy and Gold Dust Woman hit that immaculate and detailed production. It's just the rest where while they are good, I wouldn't say they blew me away. Oddly enough wasn't as crazy for The Chain which is considered as a highlight but adored the least liked song with Oh Daddy. Though who knows, maybe if I get more listens and dig through the lyrics, maybe I'll get how a turbulent time frame of break ups and drugs could make me eat my words. But as of now grade wise this is an 85 and is in the decent range.

Bay listen to Overpowered. Still need to finish up Roisin's discography but I don't think those two in the mid 2000's wow me compared to Roisin Machine.

This was one of the more convincing modal jazz (almost free jazz) records I've listened to. Solid listen. And no worries on the length overall... closer to if it's on Spotify. Convenience is a nice word for lazy... haha. Also there's something about this album cover I love.

I'm a bit torn with this album. On one hand, if someone came up to me and said this was boring and moved at a snails like pace I would honestly agree with that assertion. Hell some of my all time favorite albums can be viewed as that. Love Deluxe, Older, Golden Hour. Hell Breathless is in that grouping. But unlike those albums where to me are more texturely interesting, more varied, at times could be quite confessional/endearing or just feel more out of the general zeitgeist of the time, this just doesn't cut it for me on a personal level. At the same time, if someone came to me and said they loved it, I can see it. Even though I would argue this album was more backloaded. But, I could see the space and how some listeners that prefer to have room to breathe could enjoy it. I do wonder if I would have liked this more if the album was trimmed down. Maybe? So grade wise at the lowest I could see this being in the 60/65 range. While on the highest it would be in the 75/80 range. So I'm going for a 70. Also if this was in the top 100, it would be lower than Wu Tang.
