Traveller by Chris Stapleton

This might be the best country album I've heard in a long time. It seems real and musically interesting. Two items that often fail me in country.

2. This really is the most violent recording and for it, is fantastic: - Symphonie Nr. 5 [Beethoven] by Wiener Philharmoniker / Carlos Kleiber (classical) {I have not heard Kleiber's version of Beethoven's 5th}

3. Bobert top 100
6. Mr. Misunderstood by Eric Church

20. What You See Is What You Get by Luke Combs
22. The Weight Of These Wings by Miranda Lambert

Beethoven: Symphonie No. 5 by Carlos Kleiber / Wiener Philharmoniker
Agreed about the most violent recording, but only when it's meant to be violent. I'd also argue that this is the most careful recording, in particular in the 2nd and 4th movements. It's definitely a different interpretation than either Karajan or Zinman's versions, both of which I'm fond of. Though for the 5th Symphony, I think Kleiber might take the cake. For good measure, I listened to Kleiber's version of Beethoven's 7th as well, and I have to say I much prefer Karajan's 70s version.

Anti by Rihanna
Can't go wrong with this. I was incredibly surprised by the depth in this album, it's very well made.

Mister Heartbreak by Laurie Anderson

Like Big Science before it, Mister Heartbreak is one of the most beguiling, mysterious, avant-garde albums ever to be released by a major label. Anderson's lyrics, vocals, and Synclavier playing are all brilliant. She is one of the most evocative spoken word performers I've heard. We also get cool cameos from Peter Gabriel and William S. Burroughs. I still don't grasp how all the elements here come together to create great songs, but for the most part they do, and the album feels more cohesive than any individual song is. Definitely worth a listen if you like Big Science. My favorite track is probably Blue Lagoon. 4/5.

This was emotionally and musically stale for me, sorry. I actually like her good girl gone bad considerably more. The first half of that is great.

Sam Cooke by Sam Cooke

Sam Cooke's debut LP leads off with the classic tune You Send Me, the only original on the album. The rest is made up of standards, performed in a traditional pop style with an orchestral backing. Obviously, Cooke has an amazing voice, but that can only go so far given the dry setlist and safe accompaniment. If you're a fan of crooners, you'll probably find this to be very good; it's certainly one of the better examples of the style that I've heard. If you're not, you will find this to be inessential like I do. That said, the leadoff track and his strong vocals throughout make this a pretty good listen despite my stylistic aversion. 3/5.

After Hours by The Weeknd
I didn't like it - sorry folks. I think this is a third try on this one. Heartless was a decent single though. I remember my sister giving me a hard time for not liking some 80s music, and Blinding Lights with 2 billion plays blows my mind. I also wish I liked his voice. I wonder if Michelle Wolf was singing them if they'd sound any better.

Tourist History by Two Door Cinema Club

A peppy synthy indie pop album that I enjoyed more than I thought I would, having only heard their 2019 album and Undercover Martyn from this album before. Admittedly it was all a bit samey (which as a positive does mean the quality doesn't really drop off much) and one-paced, and a bit unmemorable (I listened to it yesterday but didn't have a chance to write it up until today and already can't remember many specifics - but there was one melody that stuck in my heard for a few hours afterwards). I give it a low 7.5/10 because I did enjoy it at the time, even if if Undercover Martyn is the best song on the album it's not going to be an album I rave about or rush to come back to, or even put a few songs on playlists for later. It comes in my 2010 chart at #55.

Gotta be honest I'm not excited about any of these selections but my 19 year old son loved the Juice WRLD album so I have heard bits of it here and there and a couple of songs are quite good. Might be worth checking the whole album out.

Agharta by Miles Davis
Think I finally found a Miles Davis album that I don't care for. I'm not sure why but this just didn't appeal to me like most of his other live albums do. There seems like less chaos here, a little too cautious. I also think that the rendition of Jack Johnson here is a bit weak.

Legends Never Die by Juice WRLD

Bust a nut and then I leave - probably best lyric of the whole album. Idk- I just feel like it didn't bring me any light. It feels like the best thing going for it is the lyrics and those aren't good.

In Dub by Ranking Dread
Definitely one of the best dub albums I've heard. East Of The River Nile, King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown and several Scientist releases are close or better, but being in that company alone is good enough of a feat. Plus he was an absolute madman and a quite dangerous criminal irl, which translates to a more aggressive style of dub. His life story is... well. He moved to UK sometime in the late 70s, had a few minor hits and then became known as "the most dangerous man in Britain and the number one Yardie Godfather". Involved with several gangs, both in Jamaica and UK. After some time had to flee to Canada, where he entered with a fake passport and was caught after he allegedly slashed his girlfriend's face with a knife. He was extradited back to Jamaica where he died in prison. Somewhere in the process, in 1982 he allegedly escaped from prison (in the UK if my timeline is right) and recorded this album. Wild. 8/10

Interesting list, but go with the latest Strokes
