Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.4/100, a mean average of 73.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.7.

I don't know, I thought it was fine I guess. I like "Blinding Lights," but most of the album is just fairly forgettable. Probably more of a case of The Weeknd just not being my thing as opposed to it being not good.

"After Hours" is a spacey synthwave influenced album that that puts its singers voice at the forefront. The problem is I don't think the vocals are strong enough. They often descend it to overly produced synth distortion. This accompanying the long quiet passages just feels tedious. Thematically, I feel like the romanticization of its self destructive topics really prevent it from invoking any strong emotions. Powerlessness makes the tracks begin to blur together and lose identity. One positive thing is the title track has a very good beat.

Due to the recent releases of the most mainstream of artists ,The Weeknd included, I had very low expectations going into this album. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this isn't a half baked record filled with, well, filler for lack of a better word but is actually is a fully-thought-out and impressive project that doesn't really waste a second of your time. Every song is crafted, intricately, to fit the aesthetic of the album while also remaining capable of mass appeal. They're not all amazing but none of them are bad which I was almost counting on.

"Blinding lights" is a classic, sounds like a track from the 80's from A-HA! Pretty interesting album.

This is a solid pop R&B album. With its synthie sounds it reminds me of an 80s produced album. So far, after "Starboy", it's his best work for me.

These songs are gorgeously produced and this album is insanely listenable, but this man is a goddamned clown.

Here's a verse on the album that I may have made up, but still feels less outrageous than most of what is on this record.

I'm filled with so much sadness
And all these hoes are filled with as much of my dick as I am with sadness
And I should stop having sex, because it makes me sad
But with all these tears and all this pussy, I can't stop getting it wet

Some good tracks on here but its let down by the over-processed vocal sound
