What was YOUR favorite release(s) from the week of Jan 20th?!
I wish I had more to say about this and more albums to recommend, but alas I do not.
side note: I love that there are now 3 albums in a trilogy of otherwise completely disrelated albums that remind me of each other album covers wise. Raven by Kelela joins these 2:
Hmmmm.... Tried listening to this a couple of times yesterday and today. I'm going to shelve it for now and then give it a few more goes over the next week
I definitely prefer Silver Bullet's Shadowfall, which I thought was quite good and FUN!, over Twilight Force's style of Power Metal. Twilight Force reminds me too much of video game music or sth. ๐ค I think Silver Bullet perhaps gives more nods to the 80s metal I love so much. ๐ค๐ค

Ha that's funny, I can see what you mean. I think there are a number of different approaches power metal bands take, and Twilight Force's approach is very big, kind of over-the-top, and kitschy, but I love that stuff (it's why I loved the album Fellowship put out last year, same kind of feel). Totally get that that might not be for everyone. _________________ Progressive Rock

At the very least, Twilight Force has improved the quality of their sound mixing and production since their last albums. I'm also of the opinion that they kind of play too hard into their tropes and influences. Though stylistically this is just what 2nd wave Power Metal started doing in the late 90s and early 00s. Sonically, they take the bombast and "epic" feeling of groups like Rhapsody with some of the technical wizardry of Stratovarius to create something of their own and I'm just not entirely convinced by them yet.
Their guitar lines aren't memorable or very good. Their melodies don't stick the landing. Say what you want about epic power metal or symphonic power metal of the time period they are harkening back to, but these songs/bands are iconic and have stood the test of time for a reason:
I know we're not in February yet here, but good lord this new Hellripper album rips. Repo will appreciate it for sure, very epic and old school (with a twist) speed/black metal.
