The amount of talent on this album is bewildering. Miles is obviously the highlight but Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, and Wynton Kelly all lined up for the same recordings? Holy cow, this might be one of the best jazz lineups ever (even though Evans and Kelly don't play together at all). And there's certainly a lot of competition for that tile.

I have this on my dinner party playlist, on the off chance that I ever become the kind of fellow to throw dinner parties.

Ironically, this trumpeter led album is the album that first led me to appreciate sax. Cannonball and 'Trane are both magnificent here. The rhythm section is second to none in the history of jazz. The compositions are groundbreaking and remain tirelessly original and fresh. Although trumpeter led, the actual trumpet playing is the least of this album's many great assets.
