I'm so boring to think that this is a great album. It is a great album, no denying that, but if I think this is the best jazz album, then I really should explore more of jazz.

Genius album, though I might prefer Birth Of The Cool or Bitches Brew.

Out of the "big three" of jazz (this, Black Saint and the Sinner Lady and A Love Supreme) this is by quite a long distance my least favourite. Even in Davis' own discography (which I haven't much looked into) I would say I prefer Birth of the Cool and In a Silent Way. I honestly think that people who think this is the best jazz album this haven't really looked into jazz that much (although fair play if you have and do think it's great). I reckon it's a pretty average album compared to some of the other jazz albums I've heard, and when I first heard this album- and it was the first jazz album I ever listened to- I was pretty underwhelmed, and even after repeat listens, I still felt the same way. I have to admit, it did put me off listening to jazz for a while, and only after hearing Blue Train a few months afterwards was when I understood that jazz could be much more exciting than this album. I understand its historical significance and everything, but in terms of quality, it's just pleasant, and not spectacular.

Me and sp4cetiger used to listen to this album in my bedroom while I still had something which resembled sanity. It's a good album and I listen to Birth Of The Cool a lot as well.

I've always found this album to be very boring. The playing just feels utterly emotionless.

Whenever I ask somebody why they can't get into jazz, they always say it's "too mellow". This album is the reason for that. I still really like this album though. It's relaxing.

Same, but picking between Davis' best albums is so hard. My favorite here is "Blue in Green", so transcendent.

Good album, but not great. Definitely a bit of fun, but nothing that I come back to very often.

Track picks
1. So What
3. Blue In Green

Its pretty much perfect. Top 50 all time for me. If it wasn't for In A Silent Way, it would be on my chart.

It's actually just about the most miraculously smooth and beautiful album ever.
