So much great electronica in this tourney. I'm was really impressed by both Zuckerzeit and Blackdance in this batch.

Zuckerzeit was a fairly simple choice since New Skin is a bit weaker imo than Songs Of or Love and Hate.

Klaus Schulze is a giant in the Krautrock scene, yet this album is not one of this best...

Zuckerzeit is a truly wonderful piece of Krautrock gold, so I wouldn't be heartbroken to see it beat New Skin here.

Zuckerzeit really surprised me. In a good way. If I didn't know it was from 1974, I would have sworn it was from the early 1980's.

Is this a serious match up? Did the two krautrock albums really go head to head in just the second round?

Easily the worst of the four electonica albums in this tourney, Blackdance seems determined to plod on in the end despite having little more to say for the second half of Voices of Syn, Blackdance's grand opus. I did enjoy Some Velvet Phasing and the Catholic Latin Mass vibe of the first half of Voices of Syn, but Ways of Changes also seemed to drag a bit. It's quite nice background music, and does create an interesting juxtaposition of Medieval church organs/vocals with futuristic pulsing electronica that I wish had been explored to more dynamic effect. Certainly not bad, but wholly unworthy of ousting Sheer Heart Attack. It's victory seems more a vote against the Queen's imperiousness.

While Zuckerzeit doesn't cohere as brilliantly as either Autobahn or Phaedra, it does posses spellbinding sounds that bounce and boom around my cranium like colorful cotton candy.

1974 Electronica
1. Autobahn
2. Phaedra
3. Zuckerzeit
-----------------------------
4. Blackdance

Zuckerzeit is my favourite of the experimental German albums in the tournament, and thus one of my favourites in the entire tournament. Of those left in, there are only a small handful of records I'd vote for over it, and Blackdance, whilst good, isn't one of them.

Blackdance is my first (& only) exposure to Klaus Schulze, and I understand it's not even close to his best. Which Klaus Schulze album should I check out next, guys?

Irrlicht and X are his best, Mirage is also good. Oh, and Ash Ra Tempel's 1971 s/t is probably the best of the lot. And, if you enjoy the latter, your next port of call should be Manuel Göttsching's stuff, my favourites being E2-E4 and Inventions for Electric Guitar (in that order).

for me it goes, Irrlicht, X, Cyborg, Timewind, Audentity, Picture Music, Cosmic Jokers, Moondawn, Dresden Performance then Mirage, and if you enjoy any of those check out Tangerine Dream's Zeit. after Picture Music it's in rough order and Blackdance is near the end

I agree with RepoMan that Blackdance tails off a bit towards the end, but it still resonates with me far more than Zuckerzeit.
