Your album of the day, but with artists you plan on listening to more than others for the day. For me, it's Tom Jones.

Jimmy Hughes. A soul singer who recorded for the FAME label in the 60s, and the most represented of the FAME singles comp I just listened to. Rightly so, best of the lot IMO. And look at that suave dandy too:

And I wanna be her boyfriend. |
She's never released a poor album. She's remarkably consistent, has a distinctive sound, and is a stellar songwriter. Barring Parsons and van Zandt (and possibly Cash and Emmylou Harris, at a push), she's my favourite country artist. An absolute joy to listen to.
Anyway, my artist of the day has been Tink, for both volumes of her Winter's Diary mixtapes. She's easily my favourite female hip-hop artist currently recording, and at a time when women are actually relatively visible and relevant too. (Hip-hop is still a depressingly male-oriented genre by any standards, but for the first time in at least a decade you would need more than one hand to count the number of prominent female rappers.) That said, my artist of the week has easily been DJ Quik, whose new album was as good an excuse as any to spend pretty much all of my waking hours listening to his back catalogue. The man is a genius. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Have you heard that Amber London mixtape from last year? Geevy led me to it, it's excellent. Tink is very good of course.

The New Pornographers. Never listened to them until a few weeks ago. I've missed out.
