I absolutely love it. It still sounds so fresh and they seemed to hit upon the perfect formula for alternative rock. So influential but not sure if it has ever been bettered by a similar album. Automatic is great but this is the perfect REM album for me.

I second that emotion. It is great, in all its jingly-jangly mumbled lyrics glory.
Gotta be among the top 5 greatest debut albums ever.
Is it as good as Automatic though?
Not quite for me. But still a terrific record.

Hot damn this band is underrated for sure. (well on this site it seems) I'd replace The Who, Bruce Springsteen, or even The Smith's with R.E.M. in a heartbeat from the top 20 artists.

I’d take Chronic Town over anything else they ever did, but Murmur is effing Brillo-pads.
