Beck has some duds, and some "wtf" albums, but Odelay, Sea Change, and Morning Phase are definitely on the other side of the spectrum _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

Oh no, I found Morning Phase irreparably dull. Odelay is fun, but its quirks have grown to irritate me over the years. I have some time for the Prince cosplay of Midnite Vultures, and I remember Geuro being pretty listenable. Overall, though, I find Beck's whole genre-hopping approach often comes across as insincere and charmless, though he is undoubtedly very talented. _________________ 2021 in full effect. I've got no problem with Morning Phase, but I'd agree that Odelay, Sea Change and Guero are where it's at. Although I was never the biggest Beck fan... Seeing him next June (fingers crossed with the whole COVID situation). _________________ Overall chart

You know... I think I was mixing up Morning Phase with Mutations which I love. However I do also appreciate Morning Phase, I think it was a return to form (albeit a different form?) following a few meh albums in the mid-late 00's. I think I'd agree that Morning Phase was maybe a bit dull compared to some of his earlier albums (nothing says "dull" like "Grammy Award for Album of the Year" lol). I disagree with "charmless" though.
I think if I had to rank, it would be something along the following:
Sea Change
Mutations
Odelay
Morning Phase
Guero
Midnite Vultures
Modern Guilt
Mellow Gold
Guerolito
The Information
Colors
Haven't listened to the rest. Not sure, that's sort of off the top of my head. The first 3 are very close, and then the next 3 are also very close _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

I see what you did there
I saw Beck live a few years ago, 2012-2013 I want to say? It was a set with Beck-Wilco-Bob Dylan and I gotta say Beck knocked it out of the park compared to the other two acts. Beck played "Loser" and "California Stars" with Wilco and I gotta say that was the highlight of Wilco's set. Sean Lennon also joined Beck and Wilco for covers of "Yer Blues" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" which were incredible. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

With Beck I adore the tracks Loser and Debra.
That's the extent of his genius for me.
And I have heard quite a few Beck albums.
The rest just passes me by.
Don't get me wrong, he's not terrible.
But he's certainly not in my top 100 best acts.

Mutations and Odelay are where it's at. But to stay on topic, Odelay is probably Beck's biggest bag of tricks, a lot of genre-hopping and creativity here, giving each song their own unique feel. It had be difficult to make it sound cohesive and consistent but Beck and his producers did a heck of job on Odelay. _________________ on such a winter's day
