Hell yes. One of my favorite albums by my favorite band. I'd never argue that Plans is an indisputable masterpiece or anything--hell, "Someday You Will Be Loved" remains one of the band's worst songs--but this still holds up beautifully. Few songs are as immaculately produced and arranged as "Soul Meets Body." Few songs harness their intimate performance with a world of sound like the warmly haunting "I Will Follow You Into the Dark." And on a personal note, few songs have changed my life on the level of "Brothers on a Hotel Bed." I've been listening to this thing for 16 years and it still feels magical.

Track picks
1. Marching Bands Of Manhattan
2. Soul Meets Body
5. I Will Follow You Into The Dark
6. Your Heart Is An Empty Room
10. Brothers On A Hotel Bed

here here! Hear hear! (lol I can't say I have ever seen that written, so I had to google what words are being said.) Well put, Holden! This is a fine fine album. This is the first DCFC I heard and I loved it and still do love it. It holds a dear little spot in my heart. As a teen I spent many many hours pouring over the words and just feeling the songs deeply and crying here and there and putting songs on mix CDs for girls and all that fun stuff. Then after high school, I found myself coming back more and more and still finding some really meaningful songs with incredible production and hooks and stuff. Everything from We Have The Facts and We're Voting Yes through the majority of Narrow Stairs is great and will always be special to me. (I've yet to really ever be overly impressed or in love with their debut or Something About Airplanes).

See, Transatlantasicm is one of my favorite albums ever and I thoroughly enjoy most pre-label albums especially we have the facts but Plans...... doesn't click with me at all. I've listened to it many MANY times but idk man, this doesn't hit for me. I do love What Sarah Said and Crooked Teeth is fun but as a whole, it feels messy and less inspired than previous projects.

I am not sure I have ever listened to their music. Always thought they might sound more like Fall Out Boy or Funeral For a Friend. Sound quite soft on a lot of songs.

Plans was the last DC4C album I really liked, though I still prefer The Photo Album and Transatlanticism. Narrow Stairs was just OK, and the one after that (Codes & Keys turned me off of them completely. I'm a little surprised it's ranked #624... I would have expected something more in the 1,500-2,000 range, but I guess this site skews a bit towards Millenials.

That said, Plans has some really solid material on it, especially "Soul Meets Body," but by the time I got around to hearing the whole thing I'd already discovered The Figurines, who (for me at least) quickly became the new standard for wavey guitar-pop featuring a male singer with a relatively high-pitched voice. So maybe I was somewhat non-plussed.

Also, I have no idea as to how "I Will Follow You into the Dark" became a hit single. Some people just really like those acoustic guitar ballads, I guess.
