I love it. Not as much as The Strokes' first two releases, but still, it's a highly enjoyable record to me.

His assassination by the Black Hand signaled the beginning of WWI.

Often, artists fall into 2 camps: 1) they either blow their wad on their first album and deteriorate from there, or 2) have a ton of creativity to work with that might show up on their debut but doesn't apex until a while later.

I put franz ferdinand in camp #1. awesome debut, not much after.

I don't like this album at all. It just sounds not particularly intelligent or inspiring to me. Their sound was very boring to me, never understood the hype at all. The bands that blew up with hype just before and after were much more deserving (Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, even Bloc Party was better) but these guys just don't do a damn thing for me.

Except for the part about Interpol and Bloc Party being better, this.

You sound about 10 there. I mean, you have a right to your opinion, I disagree but whatever. Still, there are more eloquent ways to say that.

Sorry "retarded" just really gets under my skin due to family connections to the actual mental illness. It's like someone saying "It's cervical cancerous!" or "It's polio!" to me ...

I don't think I'd be that offended if someone said "It's cervical cancerous!", but maybe that's just me.
