Pretty torn here. Ray Charles was a genius, and released some great music, but Burial really added something fresh to music voting Burial

Come on people, let's have a little more love for the man who popularized soul music. Ray Charles' early work was a revelation that influenced white and black musicians alike. The man just oozed soul:

His self-titled debut album is a gem, definitely worth checking out.

This is just a small part of the story, however. Frank Sinatra referred to Charles as the "only genius in show business" and he wasn't just blowing smoke. In addition to his piano and vocal skills, the dude could play saxophone with the best of them.

His most acclaimed song, and one that was particularly influential in the development of soul music, is "What'd I Say?":

The early '60s saw a series of critically-acclaimed albums from Charles, including The Genius of Ray Charles, Genius + Soul = Jazz, and most importantly, Modern Sounds in Western and Country Music. The latter is notable for combining white and black music in the mainstream at a time of great social upheaval in the US. Here is some more of his greatness to take in:

I love Ray Charles a tad bit more. Some of his songs had such a profound effect on me that I have to show my love again now.

Christ. Genuinely can't decide. Both are so great in their own way, to place one above the other would be saying one art-form is better than the other, and I'm not prepared to do that.
