Edit: I just changed the name of the thread, because I couldn't find where there was a thread for this man. There needed to be.

Yay for saint Louis! And east St. Louis! And Missouri! Woohoo!

I love Tom Waits' songwriting. Always mentioning peculiar personalities in all kinds of places and walks of life.

Here is a little gem:

Recently rediscovered recording of Tom in 1977. Doing a rendition of Panties and G-String, with a (ahem)... librarian.

Tom Waits and a Topless Dancer at the Ritz Music Hall in Memphis, 1977 (NSFW)

I like Tom Waits. Swordfishtrombones is my favorite Tom Waits album. What's yours?

Swordfishtrombone for me too, probably because it was my introduction to him.

It seems a shame he's not ventured into Scotland.

Yeah, Tom Waits has had perhaps the longest consistently great career going.

I'd rank my top 10 favorite albums of his:

1. Mule Variations
2. Rain Dogs
3. Bone Machine
4. Small Change
5. Closing Time
6. Alice
7. Orphans Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards
8. Swordfishtrombone
9. Big Time
10. Heart Of Saturday Night

Those are just my faves. The beautiful thing is he has never released a really bad album IMO. Dylan had some crap albums. Neil Young too. Etc. never Tom. Even the albums that some hate, I really enjoy ALOT because they are so unique like The Black Rider and Night On Earth and Real Gone etc. - not saying those are generally uncritically acclaimed records, but they are more abrasive and some people i've talked to seemed to not like them.

Anyway, I'm Fixin' to do a Tom Waits Chart just like my Bob Dylan Chart once I finish this MASSIVE Bob Dylan chart project. Should be fun.

Waits should be the focus of the next Forum Regulars Power Rankings.

Small Change is my favorite of his. Really all of his 70s stuff (Asylum Years) is great.... just... great!

Love this idea. Would like to see it applied to other prolific song writers. Glad to see Cincinnati and my part of town (Covington, KY) are both represented.
