Encarnado by Jucara Marcal

Free download here http://www.jucaramarcal.com/

Somewhat 'experimental', somewhat math rock, somewhat samba, MPB, whatever, this album is the highest point yet of what is maybe the most interesting scene going on in Brazil right now (post-samba? I've read that, lol).
Clever lyrics, having always death as a common point set the bleak tone of the album. Juçara's voice puts all her personality into it, makes it her own thing. A lot going on in the instrumentals too, well see for yourselves.

It's Vanguarda Paulista in spirit, bold, fresh, yet traditional, classic.

Thought it was very solid, but felt like I should understand the lyrics...

Nice pick, anyway

No I don't, unfortunately. Sure it loses some, but I though it could still be very enjoyable even without understanding the lyrics.

I must say that I thought this album was excellent, up there with Angel Olsen and Death Vessel as one of my favourite picks from the Album Listening Club so far. I had actually seen Eggman rec it a while back, so it was on my to-listen-to list, but I was not disappointed. Only heard it twice through, but shall be back (possibly) with some extended thoughts on it. Really nice choice fam.

I'm rushing out of the house atm but I just finished this and must say it was fantastic. Great rec brun. I'll return eventually with more in-depth commentary

While I don't have much to say about this album outside it being fantastic (I could write more, but whatever), I will say that anyone who liked this particular album should check out the albums she did with Metá Metá. Some really great stuff out there that I'd think many will enjoy.

EDIT: Just a quick edit. As far as other Brazilian albums that have come out of the tens go, I'd give a listen to Anjo Gabriel's album O Culto Secreto do Anjo Gabriel (this one is great; I believe they had one other album released in 2013, but I'm not quite sure and I'm not sure where I could find it). I'd also give a listen to Luísa Maita's Lero-Lero.

I second the Metá Metá recommendation.
Must admit I don't know the others, I'll check them out.
