However, like I said, that is based on one listen, and I'm eager to give it another. I probably will tonight if I find the time. |
This. Almost exactly this, though I think I've heard it twice.

I don't know it very well yet, I definitely need to re-listen to it to get more familiar with it, but I remember liking it a lot. Based on what I remember, great release.

Here Come the Warm Jets is Eno's strongest release melodically, I think, but the production, cohesion, and ambiance put this album on top. "The Big Ship" and "Becalmed" are strong points. _________________ My top songs of the 2010s

I listened to it again, and I have to say, my opinion hasn't changed much. I'd be genuinely curious to know why everyone is praising this album for its cohesion. The numerous fadeouts destroyed any semblance of cohesion for me. As I mentioned earlier, the instrumentals are sublime, but overall it's just not that consistent, imo.

On my chart. Love it. It is the epitome of experimental music that is very accessible at the same time. It's an absolutely mind blowing album and the instrumentals are superb. I just listened to this last night actually.
It is my 2nd favorite Wno album behind "Music For Airports".
I have it on my Chart at Number #71 just behind "Led Zeppelin IV" and just ahead of "Surfer Rosa". Here's my comment for this entry on my chart:
"This album was so perfect when I first heard it. I don't know if it ever took so little time for an album to become a favorite of mine. It's a perfect balance of pop and non-pop elements. This album feels so different and yet so naturally perfect at the same time. The whole album flows well. And the second half contains some of the most gorgeous and mesmerizing electronic, ambient, music of any kind. Really a masterpiece from one of the great geniuses in music history.
Best song: 'St Elmo's Fire', 'Another Green World' and the entire last half as a whole." _________________ -Ryan

I agree with all the praise. I, however, have always preferred Here Come the Warm Jets among his non-ambient albums. Overall, I would probably rank this 4th among his albums (still a strong 10, though) behind
1. Ambient 4: on the land
2. Apollo
3. Here Comes the Warm Jets
But really, I shouldn't really rank them like that because his ambient releases and his more "pop" (in relative terms) are so different. But overall, I rank Eno as my 3rd favorite artist of all time and my chart has a huge lack of him, especially his ambient albums. A true music visionary.
