I can hold a conversation in Canadian.

I need to brush up on my British. Large amounts of Geordie Shore should do it.

Parents were in Newcastle on the weekend, apparently this one whole street was pretty much like they were watching Geordie Shore, hilarious apparently.

I have a B in GCSE German, that's it.

Fluent in English and semi-fluent in Spanish. I used to be fluent but it's been years since I've needed it.

Learning languages is pretty much the only thing that I have ever been any good at or shown any discernible talent for! So yeah... I can speak a few!. Smile

I am bilingual in German and English. I speak Dutch at home (and by extension can understand Afrikaans reasonably well). I have a first degree in Swedish. I speak passable French (by which I mean I can read literature without a dictionary and hold a reasonably fluent conversation although I struggle sometimes to find the right words and strangely the French seem to think I sound Swiss which I am not sure what that means). I have good conversational Spanish. I can make myself understood in Italian, Polish, Welsh, Irish, Arabic and Icelandic (by which I mean I can hold a simple conversation, order food, ask directions, count... You know basic stuff that means I can survive!) In addition I can read with reasonable proficiency Latin, Plattdeutsch, Danish, Norwegian, Old English and Gothic but the spoken word leaves a lot to be desired!

In my new found semi-retired unemployment, I have started learning Te Reo Maori and Tahitian!

Wow. Holy shit. That's amazing to me.

Thank you... But it really is nowhere near as impressive as it might look! It mostly has to do with my family, what I studied and the fact that I have moved around a lot. It's amazing what you can pick up if the alternative is loneliness and starvation! Smile

I took four years of French in high school, but I'm slowly losing it Sad I've been thinking about picking it up again, but it hasn't happened yet.

Bouge-toi le cul.

French (native)
English (fluent)
Spanish (almost fluent)

Portuguese (read and understood)
Italian (same)
Both of these I find myself able to speak as well when I spend a few days there, enough to survive at least.

Nice I took 4 Japanese classes in uni. Unfortunately I went as far as I could without transferring (something that would cost way more money than itd be worth), but it is a cool language to learn. Ive also probably retained none of what I learned haha since its been 2 years since my last class. Fuck kanji though i could never figure that shit out.

That's cool, I'm pretty lucky to be in a situation where I have options to study abroad pretty easily if I choose to, which I probably will end up doing. But yeah, being honest to myself Japanese is probably the thing I most enjoy learning in school so I'm for sure going to keep up with it. May end up pursuing a degree to teach English in Japan or something, not really sure at this point. As far as kanji goes, yeah fuck that shit. I feel like it's something you can only really get comfortable with if you see it everyday.
