Chill Out is an old favorite of mine. It got me interested in Ambient music and electronic music and was one of the first albums that did that for me. I suppose if you like ambient music, or music that is sort of trippy and adventurous, and music that is engaging and electronic, and music that is truly a full album experience that weaves you through some sort of cross country journey, if you like just really creative and captivating ambient-electronic-ambient house music, you'll probably really love this.
Also the way it was recorded or produced was interesting. Per all the stories I heard of it it was recorded "live". Like they assembled the samples and the music and put it all down in one take. So if they made a fuck up and missed something (which I assume they did a few times maybe) they had to rerecord it.
Yeah, and The KLF were so cool back in the day. The White Room is another really solid album by them, but it doesn't move me like Chill Out. Chill Out just puts me in a good, relaxed, happy ' mood. Love this damn thing!
I haven't heard the Gerbils album yet, so I won't vote just yet. _________________ -Ryan
Vote to Are You Sleepy? It was the one that actually did not put me to sleep... _________________ "And can’t you see you’re in on it?

Chill Out is good throughout (but I'm not in love with it as some others are on this site), whereas Are You Sleepy? seemed to lose momentum pretty quickly. Not a bad record, I will relisten, but for now my vote goes to The KLF.
Wasn't expecting to vote against Elephant 6, not even lower tier Elephant 6, but I thoroughly enjoyed Chill Out. Great nomination Mercury. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
Elephant 6 is a pretty stupid name for anything (perhaps more so because I have a huge bias against the collective considering I can't stand a majority of them instead of actually disliking the name, but whtevs) and The Gerbils certainly didn't strike too high on my enjoyment meter.
On the other hand, I've listened to Chill Out a handful of times before this and it's pretty damn good so I voted for that.
Liked both of them a lot. It's hard to decide because they're so very different. Chill Out demonstrates what good ambient music can be (unlike... never mind). The Gerbils are masters of guitar and vocal harmonies. So do I vote for good songs or good music?
I didn't get this far in life by saying "ooh, I can't decide." Vote goes to the Gerbils.
Eh, not my favorite matchup. The KLF are a group I always felt like I should like more but never really did. Their experimentation is interesting and some of their ideas are great, but for the most part I find Chill Out to be kind of aimless, with less ideas than it's length deserves (which isn't saying much considering it's only 44 minutes). As for The Gerbils, they suffer from the same problems I find most Elephant Six bands that aren't Neutral Milk Hotel or OTC (or early Of Montreal if they count) have. Fun tunes that are ultimately unimpactful and uninspired lyrically, which doesn't do so much when the structures are so simple.
Neither of these records are bad, but neither are very good to me. Would much rather have both Field Mice and The Dodos go on, or have Holo go on with the way that poll is looking. Think I'll give the vote to The KLF though, because they're more interesting at least.
