This band is like a watered-down Replacements

Finally somebody mentioned it. Yes, Goo Goo Dolls are the offspring of the Replacements. Rzeznik has cited Westerberg as an influence numerous times. As for watered-down statement, sure I'd agree with Goo's later material, such as Dizzy Up the Girl. But the early stuff like the self-titled and Jed sounds just as raw as The Replacements.

As for Dizzy Up the Girl, yes Slide is way better than Iris, and so is Broadway, Dizzy, Bulletproof, and Hate This Place. I enjoy Dizzy Up The Girl as an album but it isn't as good A Boy Named Goo. But then again, nothing is (not by the Goo Goo Dolls, that is). ABNG is far and away their best album.

Like streetspirit said, this is a good analogy. Listening to Tim I can't help but remember when the goo goo dolls were one of my first fave bands and they had a similar energy. But also like Ss mentioned, their early stuff is pretty raw and ballsy. Later on they became a sort of alternative rock pop. Which is a good listen as well. This album is okay. But the early Replacements were always on a whole nother level.

I can name several "adult alternative" records I actually enjoy from the same period of time that are about as relegated to trite buzz ballad CD's and were background to 90s teen soaps.

I was just listening to "Dizzy" this weekend, I think they still held their own on that song. I used to love "Name" growing up, before I discovered (replaced by?) the Replacements
