"Close to the Edge" should be the pick for Yes

Agreed on both counts.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield deserves a mention, and Cygnus X-1 or 2112 by Rush would have been a nice inclusion.

Exactly. So many fantastic prog bands through the 90s/00s and still today.

I would like to have seen Dream Theater represented on the list. Wouldn't have voted for whichever of their songs was chosen, but would have like to see them here anyways.

It probably would've been Metropolis Pt 1 or Lifting Shadows Off a Dream if they were included.

I would've said Metropolis Pt 1 or Octavarium, but yeah

Personally In The Name Of God (if it's "magnum opus" enough) or Change of Seasons or Octavarium

It seems most of Dream Theater's catalog is composed of magnum opuses. Metropolis Pt 1 was the first and may still be the best of the bunch.

I honestly thought I had included 2112 when I posted..

And as far as Oldfield goes I'd probably put Ommadawn before Tubular Bells.

Either way I posted this Poll mostly for the comments so I'm glad it's causing a stir! :p

Are we just defining "magnum opus" here as "very long song"? Can I include shorter progressive songs?
