Not usually my cup of tea— not sure I've even listened to a metal album from 2023 yet— but, may as well—

Didn't really like their last effort, but I'm still glad to give this one a go (after the backlog of ALCs is cleared lol).

I'll start by saying that "symphonic" and "melodic" tags don't really make me excited to listen to a metal band. Especially when I've heard the band's previous album and I didn't really vibe with it. Very few albums/bands manage to pull off this style to my liking - after all, not everything can be Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. So yeah, I didn't love this, but also kinda didn't think it sucked. Even the parts which usually rise a big red flag for me (Within Fire and Crystal's "epic" singing part) weren't too bad. It's probably better than Cosmic World Mother, which was a decent tasty melodic black record, but didn't feel unique or great/catchy/cool enough to justify the style. Overall a fun record if nothing else, probably won't land on my 2023 chart, but I'm glad I gave it a go. It's obvious the band are good songwriters, and perhaps in the future they will shift to a sound that I find more appealing. Cool choice Gowi, hopefully more people give this a listen.
