Something like this: Post Punk > Post Hardcore > Punk Rock > Hardcore punk

Maybe there should be a Mercuryism.

I would say that the best post-punk albums outclass hardcore, but I generally prefer hardcore to post-punk. I also love post-hardcore, equally, if not slightly more, than hardcore.

I love both genres, in fact there's loads of albums from both genres in my overall chart so I really can't choose, both Minutemen and The Fall make my top 10. Though I do expect post-punk to be more popular as a whole.

I love me some good hardcore of course, but all in all I'm more attracted to the inventiveness of postpunk. More variety, more new ideas, more blending, more interesting rhythms.

Yeah you love those interesting and crazy rhythms

-------

And yeah, really I am about 1/2 as familiar with Post Punk. Much more into the HC experience-wise.

As for PP, it is much more diverse. It just hasn't consistently thrilled me like HC. At one point I had like 10 hardcore albums on my chart. That number has since dwindled to 2 (Minor Threat's Complete Discog and Circle Jerks' Group Sex. I don't think I have any post punk albums on there - unless you count Punk Flag which I never have. But Crazy Rhythms and Unknown Pleasures are both pretty close to chart worthy for me personally.

As for New Wave, idk. Never really think of it. Clearly it sprouted a lot of great music. But I never got into a "New Wave Phase" at all.
