So since my knowledge of hockey doesn't really go past 1998 (YEA PETER BONDRA), I need some help getting to know the players of the league.
So can someone give me a quick list: the 5 best offensive players in the NHL (and their teams), the 5 best defensive players in the NHL (and their teams, excluding goalies), and the 5 best goalies in the NHL (and their teams). _________________ 2023 Chart

Oh come on now. Surely youre better than Steve fucking Simmons arent you?
Still kinda weird seeing Quick being included in the top 5 goalie convo still. Hes had like 1 good season and 1 great playoffs. Could be the "most overrated" player category these days. Though that's still likely Toews.
anyway ill do some of my picks now
Top Forwards:
Crosby
Ovechkin
Stamkos
Seguin
Malkin
Top Defensemen
Karlsson
Subban
Doughty
Keith
Giordano/Hedman/maybe Ekman-Larsson after this year
Top Goalies
Price
Lundqvist
Rask
Holtby
Bobrovsky
heh all from the east. And my 6th would probably be Schneider. Varlamov might be the best goalie in the west imo

Steve Simmons is a clown. Sports is the highlight of Sun media, but it's still a rag. My opinion of Kessel is based on many Leaf games watched (one of my buddies and many of my inlaws are suffering Leaf fans). He's a talented goal scorer, but seems to come and go in spurts, sulk, and but in a half-effort.
Quick was my 5th choice. I wanted to pick Mason, but then he had personal issues and allowed 7 goals. Bobrovsky and Holtby are right up there. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.

Kessel is certainly not a defensive powerhouse, but really that's not what youre paying him for. And really his fitness is not an issue haha. Like he's got explosive speed. No idea where that criticism came from (oh wait it was Simmons) except for the fact that he doesnt "look" like a hockey player. I always get sort of cringey around "he shows little effort" or whatever. He's a super quiet guy. Doesnt like the limelight at all. You can say it comes with the territory but no it doesnt really. Thats just more media garbage. It's a similar thing that we had here in Edmonton with Hemsky. And its bullshit. I remember reading a thing about Burke talking with him during the draft interviews, and saying he didnt make eye contact and was dodgy on questions. Burke thought he was a douche until he realized sometime later kessel was just an awkward guy. And then he traded for him.
And I mean yeah he comes and goes. So does everyone. He was a perennial 30 goal scorer with boat anchor bozak as his center for all those years. What hes supposed to score every game? The amount of blame he got for the garbage teams he was on being garbage was just ridiculous.

I could give a crap how he works with the media. Toronto media would be oppressive.
No denying the talent. I've just seem him quit on too many plays. I see him as a slightly more talented Thomas Vanek.
...and Hemsky was impressive as well. Too bad he got hurt so much. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.

Missed this until now, but nah its not that bad. This season is a write-off (as per all since 06) and he'll heal up just fine. Plus not being in Edmonton has numbed me a bit for oilers news - I don't have cable and stupid gamecenter blacks out a lot of their games. Plus made room for Draisaitl who is tearing it up right now.
On another note went to my first flames game last night and wow am I still reeling. Wore my Stars Hemsky jersey and cried for hours after. I just cant have nice things.
