Applerill, um....
Anyways yes this is urgent news, how albums are ranked by their positions on the charts is how each of these albums need to objectively be percieved. If you love Carrie & Lowell or To Pmip a Butterfly more or equally, who really cares and hopefully this doesn't turn into a thirty page thread.

Very good point. In this case, they're both in my top 50 of the year, and I wouldn't care if it wasn't for the fact that
A. People keep bringing this up
B. It makes the site's indie fetish all the more obvious.

a poptimist on RYM with ~35k ratings who has spotty but generally good taste. she has a huge following despite only half listening to most of the music she rates. she also is known for making so many snarky one liner reviews of albums that the mods don't let her publish reviews anymore, so you have to follow her as a favorite or a friend to even read them on the album pages.

I have no problem with Carrie & Lowell not being top of BEA's 2015 chart, but it is by far and away my favourite release from the year. The depth of feeling the music and lyrics conjure make this an exceptional record for me.
Not sure about Kendrick. I loved his work with Flying Lotus, so I thought I would check out To Pimp A Butterfly as a gateway to his music more generally. I tried, several times, and while I liked some of the tracks, I just don't like it on an aesthetic level. I don't listen to a lot of hip hop/rap music, which may be a big part of the problem. But I expected a lot more.

Except it's hardly the best example of a 'pure rock' record, with less than a minute of guitar music on the whole album
Father John Misty, Courtney Barnett?

You say you understand what i'm saying, but then you say this in the same post, so you obviously don't, so I'm going to lay it out one more time. It doesn't fucking matter what great "fetish" or "bias" the site has. The fact that you say "in this case" means that your opinion of these 2 albums is greatly altered by whatever fucking zeitgeist you feel you're rebelling against, but really you're just making youself look idiotic. Like what you like. Stop basing all your opinions on trying to seem like some fucking intellectual. I mean goddamn.

Very fair criticism. It really was wrong of me to be judgmental like that. I'd probably do it again, but I definitely see what you're saying.
