I can agree that they were certainly a band of the 2000s, but I'm not sure I can agree with any of the rest.

having no parallel or equal; exceptional.

That last synonym is what I meant. Kapish?

Then perhaps you should’ve used the word exceptional instead of bold claims such as unparalleled. I have no problem with people liking The Mars Volta but these kind of assertions from people who apparently ignore bands because they sound similar to bands they already know are literally ridiculous and counterproductive to actual discussion. It’s why for the longest time I hated talking to Beatles fans on this other music forum I was a regular on— because nothing could ever top their influence or style! NOTHING! They are so perfect they transcend all of art and no contention should ever be murmured in their presence! If antagonistic elitism is toxic, so is ignorant overzealousness.

Yeah I'm with gowi on this. Unparalleled is just frankly a wrong word to describe this group's manic, shifting, complex sound. I mean there were many many bands and artists 20 years before "Deloused..." which were just as if not more complex, frantic and wild - Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson, Miles Davis, etc. still, Frances the Mute is a solid album. I have to eventually revisit them.

I’m not a fan of Mars Volta and I’m NOT trying to be an asshole, it’s just people who hype stuff up with objective-like statements bother me. I’m sure I can be hard to approach sometimes but statements like that is the reason I don’t like talking to people about music on BEA anymore. There is no conversation and intellectual dialogue to be held with factual statements such as unparalleled.

Yeah. Maybe he just misunderstood the word. In this case I think a reference to bands that did do what Mars Volta did before they did makes it more real to him why "unparalleled" was simply an inapplicable word.
