Probably true in part, but they're both outstanding albums worthy of lots of acclaim. _________________ Add me on RYM

Leave Me Alone by Hinds
I was really hoping for this to be an overhated gem, especially after the first track, which I quite liked. Stylistically, there was very little variety for the rest of the album. That on its own wouldn't have been a dealbreaker. I am often fine with a bunch of good samey songs hazily blurring together, even if it's not my favorite thing to hear. The dealbreaker was that Leave Me Alone went downhill in quality as the album proceeded. Vocally, it felt increasingly sloppy. Instrumentally, it felt increasingly lethargic. And still, I didn't exactly dislike the album when all was said and done. It just wasn't something I'll want to try again. 2.5/5. _________________ Add me on RYM

Is this true? What makes u say this? I LOVE this album and their follow-up - I Don't Run - is even better & will likely make my list of best rock rock albums of the 2010s.

Oh for sure. It was like the Lord Willin' vs. Hell Hath No Fury situation, though. The former was better but people didn't quite know how to receive it at first, and publications were determined not to make the same mistake next time around. _________________ 2021 in full effect. I think they just got bad live reviews at first because they couldn't really play their instruments. They got a lot better and are fantastic live now. I like the second album but haven't heard this one yet. Probably not one of my favs of the decade but certainly fun and one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

It has a low 2.77 average on RYM, and a fairly low 66 here and 68 on AOTY. I was hoping that I would disagree with those ratings in a positive direction and find it “overhated.” _________________ Add me on RYM

Apocalypse, Girl by Jenny Hval
Somehow every time I hear this album I'm more blown away than the time before. I just put it on for the first time in a while and every aspect is phenomenal, from the production to the vocals to the lyrics to the concept. The high points are significantly higher than on Blood Bitch. "That Battle Is Over" and "Heaven" are both more or less peak music. Apocalypse, Girl just broke into my overall top 30. 4.58/5. _________________ Add me on RYM

Antisocialites by Alvvays
A fantastic album from a fantastic band. It was my silver medalist nominee from the 2017 tournament, and it sounds just as fresh today as it did on my last listen. The guitars, hooks, and vocals are all out of this world. I still greatly prefer the self-titled debut for its superior songwriting, but this one is outstanding too and holds its spot at #100 on my overall. 4.29/5. _________________ Add me on RYM
