I definitely would've done 98, mainly for being the seminal year in French Hip Hop and would've been interesting to showcase that, but I guess I'll be boring and do 1993

Almost went with '93 myself. Singles are crazy strong.

Decided against it because I only know about a ten hip-hop records from that year... (they're all fantastic, but figured my knowledge was a bit narrow).

Oh thanks for saving me spot!

Is the recommendation of 10 albums and singles from that year because you might need to supply something new as the game goes on or? I mean it sounds fun to dig in more regardless, but just curious as to what end.

Thanks again.

I strongly suggest that once you have picked a year, you start exploring. It would be advisable to try to find around 10 albums and 10 singles from your year that you would be happy to use.

Just to clarify, if we use an album, we can't use a single from it as well, right? (i.e. To Pimp A Butterfly one round, The Blacker The Berry the next round, etc)

2006 was a super weird year for me to pick considering I'm more of a 90s guy, but there are some classics, a few of which I've already mentioned, and some more off the beaten path greats.

Also, there's an album that is listed on RYM as 2005 when it didn't officially come out until 2006, and I'm wondering if there could be an exception made, because I'd really want it in my year if it's possible. Most every other publication (including this site) has it listed as 2006.

You can use a single as well, but people might judge your team for it.

Yes. As the game goes on into the semi-finals and beyond, users will be expected to bulk up their teams, in order to add some variety to the game.

Currently allowed, but strongly discouraged. (Also, I have considered just banning this outright, as it goes completely against the spirit of the game as I have imagined it. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?)

Show me the receipts.

Uh, I'm late to the party. 1994, 1998, 1993, 1995, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2015. That was my shortlist of years, and it's good I had a lot of options haha. It's a shame though, I wanted to explore 90s hip hop more, but 2002 has some great stuff that I'm yet to listen to.
