I've always wanted to make a thread called "Does anyone REALLY think OKC is better than DSOTM?" and then have the message body be nothing but a video clip of Jimmy from South Park saying "I mean, come on." Unfortunately, no such video exists to my knowledge.

This. I love both of these albums, but DSOTM is just leagues superior to OKC. Don't get me wrong, OKC has its merits, but no DSOTM just flows better and is basically the blueprint for every album since.

I don't agree in the slightest about that last bit.

Well maybe not every album, seeing as how a lot of genres have completely different structures, but as far as rock goes anyway. Heck, try telling me OKC isn't heavily inspired by DSOTM.

I'd absolutely say Radiohead was influenced by Pink Floyd, and OKC was INFLUENCED by DSoTm. But not inspired. And being more influential or being earlier on the chain of influences doesn't make you better than that which was later of the chain.

This. It doesn't inherently make DSOTM better, but without DSOTM there would be no Radiohead (at least not as we know them).

Obviously Radiohead has some Pink Floyd influence, but to be honest, even though the sound of the album is influential, I fail to see any revolutionary structuring it has that could warrant the statement of nearly every rock album afterwards being based on it. I mean, yeah the album flows really well, but so does What's Going On. It wasn't a new thing for albums to flow like that, nor do I think nearly every rock album since has that intention. Don't get me wrong, the album is clearly influential, but I don't see it as being some big revolution in music, I think those kinds of albums are very rare, possibly non-existent.

What Pink Floyd did was amazing. They made a concept album, with definite spacey Rick and prof rock aspects, and they in the midst of this prof rock concept album they seamlessly included a couple of great rock songs that became super famous and played on the radio. They managed to create a totally cohesive record that didn't pander to the masses more exceed 45 minutes. In so doing they made a record that is as popular as any have ever been while being just as or more so conceptual and "deep" as many of their contemporaries had managed to do whole selling comparatively little (King Crimson, Yes, etc ). It was nearly an impossible feat.

But still OKC is better IMO.

DSOTM is Dr. J
to OKC's Michael Jordan.
