Nah, it's praised due to the beautifully detailed music and the instrumentation and the inventive and unique structure of the album and the emotion of the music. It's praised because it's an absolutely awe-inspiring mix of hip hop, Jazz, funk, and many other forms of music. It's praised because even after hearing it many times you can still find details and messages and little musical flourishes all over the thing. And it's praised because it's just a great album. Get outta here with this demeaning "white guilt" explanation for why To Pimp A Butterfly is praised. _________________ -Ryan

So there's a million lists from artists up on boomkat.com along with their picks for their own list, lots of good stuff and stuff to look into.
Also pitchfork's experimental list is pretty cool, tho it's more like "here is music that's good and trying things and that makes it experimental I guess", but yay for Drainolith, Felicia Atkinson, Pioulard, Byron Westbrook, and Joshua Abrams, along with some stuff I need to check.

This is really cool and I'd love to try to compile these with other artists who have released lists (Hotel Books and The Twilight Sad both put out pretty cool ones the other day, for example) a la albumoftheyear.org but for just artists. That'd be cool as hell _________________
