I'm sure Harvey Weinstein is saying the same thing right now.

Looks like nutso read one sentence I wrote and took it way out of context. If you're gonna attack somebody's words, you should read them all first, because I'm pretty sure he missed this:

I wasn't saying "we can't help it" as an excuse to justify badseed's and Merc's statements. I simply meant we can't help having such thoughts and feelings. That's all. But I never said I condoned it as a measure for this list.

And I never condoned Harvey Weinstein either.

Let's get back on topic, shall we?

...Darn, I honestly never guessed that this topic would be so problematic.

Anyway, here is a super-quick first draft that I came up with on the fly. To be honest, I hardly think about actors (I obviously wish as a poptimist that I thought about them much more), but these are just the presences that I love spending time with the most in movies. Maybe some physical attraction occasionally comes into play, but whatever it is, they are just a joy to be around, and they make me feel something special whenever my time with them is over.
1. Phillip Seymour Hoffman
2. Bill Murray
3. Bibi Andersson
4. Seth Rogen
5. Amy Pohler
6. Matt Damon
7. Scarlett Johansson
8. Shah Ruhk Khan
9. Divine <3
10. Marilyn Monroe
11. Ben Stiller
12. John C Reilly
13. Julie Delpy
14. Ryan Gosling
15. Elisabeth Moss

21. Kirsten Dunst
22. Adam Driver
23. Jessica Chastain
24. Jake Gyllenhaal
25. Jenny Slate
26. Kevin Hart
27. Christina Ricci
28. Jean-Pierre Leaud
29. Elle Fanning
30. Tiffany Haddish
31. Jack Black
32. Julianne Moore
33. Christian Bale
34. Renée Zellweger
35. Joaquin Phoenix
36. Mark Duplass
37. Aubrey Plaza
38. Steve Buscemi

58. John Cusack

(A year ago Kevin Spacey and John Travolta would've made the list, but I'm just not willing to put in the effort to see where they belong right now)

Did Kevin Spacey suddenly become an actor who you don’t enjoy watching due to the allegations? I find my opinion on his body of the work largely the same despite the whole situation.

With that said, and under StreetSpirit’s suggestion I’ll try to compose a list.

Again I'd just like to state that movies are a visual art form. Did we not rank our movie lists based at least in part on how much we like looking at them? I'm not into the political BS and didn't realize we had them here because I don't go to that section of the boards. I apologize for hurting your feelings, offending you, coming across as a sleazeball, etc. For the record if I have somewhere to be and you're standing in the road blocking traffic I will run you over.. I didn't rape or sexually harass anyone. I simply made a statement regarding a factor that attracts me to certain actresses (and actors) and their films. It's a favorites list, like every one of my lists have been. Not an objective best list. An actress having sex appeal is no different than a horror movie having great gore or an science fiction movie with awesome special effects or a boring movie with outstanding cinematography. It plays a factor into what makes me enjoy them. I've come full circle on the "respecting the art form" thing and now I'm back to accepting that most movies are entertainment, and also extremely subjective.

Great lists so far. I don't mind y'all combining the actors and actresses if it's easier or more your style of ranking actors. I can filter through pretty easily. Looking like Philip Seymour Hoffman is off to a great start.

I'm keeping out looks as much as I can in my list, that said I don't really have a problem with others doing it. To me that's like getting upset because people take how tall the actors or actresses are into account. The only thing that does bother me a little is if a very talented but not hot actor or actress doesn't make the cut because the list is filled with models, then I'll be a little sad, but I'm not gonna act like it's the end of the world or anything.

Okay, and I did my actors list. This was similarly tough. I had some real legends on here, the O’Toole’s and Olivier’s and George C. Scott’s and Alain Delon’s of the world. But I also had actors who aren’t as legendary or maybe as talented, but who I love watching even more. As this is a favorites list I erred on the side of personal fave over sheer genius. Hugh Grant is not the same level of actor as those people I mentioned. But I just get more scored to see Grant in a silly classic rom com than I do about Olivier in a Shakespearean drama.

It’s hard to explain. I just went with favorites. Here it is.

Oh and yes, I again didn’t add numbers but yes Madhabi Mukherjee is number 1 on the actress list and James Stewart is number 1 on the actors list.

Actors:

James Stewart (Its A Wonderful Life)
Tom Hanks (Cast Away)
Paul Newman (The Hustler)
Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List)
Buster Keaton (Sherlock, Jr)
Takashi Shimura (Ikiru)
Toshiro Mifune (Yojimbo)
Jack Lemmon (The Apartment)
Roger Livesey (The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp)
Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset)

Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
Charlie Chaplin (City Lights)
Robert DeNiro (Taxi Driver)
Geoffrey Rush (Quills)
Bill Murray (Groundhog Day)
Colin Firth (Pride and Prejudice)
Soumitra Chatterjee (The World Of Apu)
Richard Dreyfus (Close Encounters of the Third Kind)
Bruno Ganz (Wings of Desire)
Harry Dean Stanton (Paris, Texas)

Joaquin Phoenix (Her)
Humphrey Bogart (The Treasure of the Sierra Madre)
Marlon Brando (On The Waterfront)
Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven)
Al Pacino (The Godfather Part II)
Jean Gabin (The Grand Illusion)
Chhabi Biswas (The Music Room)
Jack Nicholson (As Good As It Gets)
Denzel Washington (Malcolm X)
John Cusack (Say Anything)

Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street)
Edward Norton (American History X)
James Dean (Rebel Without A Cause)
Kevin Costner (Field of Dreams)
Ian Holm (The Sweet Hereafter)
Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea)
Michael Fassbender (Hunger)
Max von Sydow (The Seventh Seal)
Hugh Grant (Four Weddings and a Funeral)
Joseph Gordon-Lovett (500 Days Of Summer)

John Travolta (Blow Out)
Benicio Del Toro (21 Grams)
Hugh Jackman (Logan)
Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon)
Jake Gyllenhaal (Prisoners)
Guru Dutt (Pyaasa)
Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory)
Bill Hader (Trainwreck)
Sam Rockwell (Moon)
Tommy Lee Jones (No Country For Old Men)

And I made a couple small changes on my actress list... I hope that’s not a super nuisance. So here is that updated list...

Actresses:

Madhabi Mukherjee (Charulata)
Irene Jacob (The Double Life Of Veronique)
Deborah Kerr (Black Narcissus)
Shirley MacLaine (The Apartment)
Diane Keaton (Manhattan)
Mia Farrow (The Purple Rose Of Cairo) (up 1 spot)
Giulietta Masina (Nights Of Cabiria)
Bette Davis (All About Eve)
Julie Delpy (Before Midnight)
Meg Ryan (When Harry Met Sally)

Judy Garland (Meet Me In St. Louis)
Gong Li (Raise The Red Lantern)
Frances McDormand (Fargo)
Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line)
Holly Hunter (The Piano)
Celia Johnson (Brief Encounter)
Sissy Spacek (Badlands)
Saoirse Ronin (Brooklyn) (down 4 spots... 14 to 1Cool
Bibi Andersson (Persona)
Liv Ullman (Persona)

Marilyn Monroe (Some Like It Hot)
Kate Winslet (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind)
Moira Shearer (The Red Shoes)
Natalie Portman (Black Swan)
Jessica Chastain (Interstellar)
Jennifer Ehle (Pride and Prejudice)
Katharine Hepburn (Philadelphia Story)
Hillary Swank (Boys Don’t Cry)
Greta Garbo (Queen Christina)
Grace Kelly (Rear Window) (went from 24 to 30)

Brie Larson (Room)
Carrie Fisher (Star Wars)
Faye Dunaway (Bonnie and Clyde)
Claudette Colbert (It Happened One Night)
Harriet Andersson (Cries and Whispers)
Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
Debra Winger (Terms of Endearment)
Eva Marie Saint (On The Waterfront)
Juliette Binoche (Blue)
Karuna Bannerjee (Aparajita)

Meryl Streep (Sophie’s Choice)
Donna Reed (Its A Wonderful Life)
Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman)
Emmanuele Beart (Un Coeur en Hiver)
Jodie Foster (Panic Room)
Helena Bonham Carter (A Room With A View)
Kristin Stewart (Adventureland)
Jean Arthur (Shane)
Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility)
Lea Seydoux (Blue Is The Warmest Color)

- and honestly yeah this is more accurate in terms of “favorites”. And yes my love of these actresses charms have a lot to do with it. No way around it. You can call it “sex appeal” or just plain old charm. But I don’t actually think it’s looks. Cuz I don’t have Salma Hayak in here, or Vergara, or Halle. They are all talented, but I prefer these 50. Meg Ryan is an example, again, of an actress who is probably not as accomplished as the Meryl Streep’s is the world. But does the fact that I fall in love with so many of her characters have something to do with rank? YES! But maybe we disagree. That’s fine. Yay for disagreement.

Didn’t realize we were so unaware and disingenuous to still use “I’m sorry you got offended” in 2017 as an excusable response and not the heavy-handed trite that it is. For the record, enjoy your manslaughter charges, teehee. Your comments objectify and for some, it is an acceptable discrimination and for others, it is not. I made that pretty clear by my comments that it is not for me. This is your list after all and you are allowed to use what measure you want to, but it will not absolve people from making judgments on your perspective and speaking out against them. I won’t speak on the objectivity-versus-subjectivity metric, as I’ve had my fill of that conversation a dozen plus times over, but you should understand as a film enthusiast why making such disingenuous comments would inspire people to be disturbed or unimpressed by them.

Yeah, I don’t really have any issues with measuring actors based on “presence” or “charm”. Just to make that clear.

But I don't understand. Where I was born and raised, the men like titties and are proud of it. Just because you live your life like a hypersensitive douchy barista doesn't mean everyone else does, nor does it mean I should hide the way I feel in order to please the mighty music lovers of BEA. Be offended if you want and fine. It doesn't bother me one bit. But your thoughts regarding the subject are just as much nonsense to me as what I'm saying is to you. Now can we please stop crying and move on with our lives? I'm just some random dude on the internet.

Fact of the matter is I made a trashy remark/joke. I get it. I should have said the same thing everyone else is saying. "Physical attraction" if you will. Never should have said "smash." You're too classy for that. I have to up my game in the presence of such bourgeois.

Like I said I didn't intend to ruffle anyone's feathers. So to everyone else (for the mere sake that it did turn into a thing) I'm sorry for saying "smash." It should have gone without saying, but it was sarcasm to begin with. How the fuck am I gonna go back in time and fuck Bardot? Her sex appeal is was draws her to me as an actress but she's been a memorable part of a few great movies so that qualified her for the list.

Also I would like to once again applaud these lists coming in. I think I'll certainly revise mine before it's over with. I totally forgot Oscar Isaac and need to rectify that.
