Probably because he's made atleast 3 or 4 better albums! |
Or because it's just plain boring. But I agree, though I'm only familiar with a fraction of his work, Ommadawn is much better. |
If we live a fair 30 years ago, Mike Oldfield album would be much higher than they are now. Perhaps he became an ordinary musician, when he made a few singles hits. What about the Hergest Ridge? _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNGpsnTCUXM

#13 Velvet Underground & Nico (should be #4-5)
#19 Doolittle (#10-13)
#21 In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (#6-7)
#33 Loveless (#14-19)
#44 Unknown Pleasures (#25-29)
#53 Marquee Moon (#20-25)
#56 Closer (#15-19)
#67 Remain In Light (#30-35)
#68 Disintegration (#40-45)
#75 Animals (#40-45)
#85 The Soft Bulletin (#35-40)
#89 Pink Moon (#25-30)
#92 Low (70-75)
Completely agree with the exception of Disintergration and Unknown Pleasures
In the top 100 that is...I'm not going to go on forever. |

The highest ranked of my top 5 is at 140 so all of those? Nah I'm kidding I know some of those albums have pretty limited appeal but a few of my favourite albums stand out as being worthy of more love on this site.
The Smiths' self titled debut is a good example, in my opinion the best Smiths album but falls well behind The Queen Is Dead at 221. Crazy!
Nas - Illmatic is the best rap album ever made so it's crazily low at 140, still there's barely a rap album to be seen in the top 100 so it sort of makes sense.
Screamadelica has been mentioned and I'd second that, Higher Than The Sun obviously one of my favourite tracks
Come On Pilgrim is probably my favourite Pixies album (EP technically) so it's a pretty poor rating of 1296. Just listen to Nimrod's Son you'll see what I mean.
The Clash's first album, particularly the US release is surely the best Clash album but seems to get overlooked for London Calling. How can you not pick the album with Janie Jones, I'm So Bored With The USA, White Riot, Career Opportunities, (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais, I Fought The Law and best of all, (and THE best Clash track), Complete Control. How London Calling is at 9 and their debut is at 166 I just can't work out.
Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables is immense and worthy of a much better rank than 281.
Dire Straits, The Prodigy, The Libertines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs all deserve higher ranked albums aswell.
Sorry for the long post! _________________ Shut up mate you're boring!

Yeah, I've only made a small dent in his entire collection, but Songs of Distant Earth is aaaammmazing. One of my favorites of all time. Tubular Bells is really good, but most of the stuff I have heard from him is better.

I thought Bat Out Of Hell would've been way higher in ranking and rating on this site.

There are a lot, but there's one that really gets me. Kind of Blue should be in the top 5. _________________ kill yr idols

I expected Scarecrow by John Mellancamp to be in the top 1000, but there's something a little more unexpected for me.
Apologies to the queen mary isn't in the top 1000. I mean, considering all the indie kids popping up, I'd expect it to be at least in the top 700.

Exile in Guyville should be way higher, I'm constantly shocked that its not at least in the top 200.
Souvlaki and So tonight that I might see (and mazy star discography) are all way too low...
Kraftwerk'a discography is all way too low, as well, especially autobahn and radioactivity _________________ My top songs of the 2010s
