Maybe because it's not good?

The only publication I've ever found that gave it anything less than a perfect score was Rolling Stone (which gave it 4 stars), and frankly, from a technical perspective, it's substantially more accomplished than any Nirvana album (both in terms of musicianship and production; songwriting is subjective, certainly, but even then I think Soundgarden's compositions are smoother and more intricate). Additionally, it was an exceptionally original album at the time of its release. Until Superunknown, no band had been able to create a sound that was as simultaneously heavy and unified as the one demonstrated on this album. I've personally never heard any other album on which the vocals mesh so seamlessly with the instruments. So #149's a little low for this one, in my opinion. |
Agreed. The themes explored therein are pretty dark, so perhaps that puts people off.

I doubt it.
There are plenty of albums with darker themes ranked higher. Admittedly they also sound better but w/e. _________________ She's dead, wrapped in plastic.

I've always found it very odd that Pet Sounds isn't even in the top 10. Before joining the site, I honestly probably would have guessed that it would be first.

Just had a run through the top 100, don't think I have before now actually.
How the hell did Fleet Foxes make the top 10,000 let alone top 100? Wtf BEA. _________________ She's dead, wrapped in plastic.

The top 5 should ALL BE DYLAN!!! |
Agree 100% about Radiohead. I'm sorry to anyone who thinks otherwise, but OK Computer is not the best album of all time. Or in the top 10. And The Bends and In Rainbows shouldn't even be in the top 50, let alone at 14 and 16.

Their debut album is a lot better than some of the other stuff in the top 100.
