Yeah actually lol. Now that you mention it., fuck that poster! I agree it's misleading and kind of a spoiler.
All I know is I have to check theater quality for every show midway through the movie, and with Room I literally end up teary eyed and emotional and moved every time I go in for those 2 minutes. Every scene has such weight. It's a brutally emotional film. |
I'd honestly compare the poster for Room to a poster for Gravity that features Sandra Bullock smiling on Earth. You lose all suspense whatsoever. It's a bit of a shame. I even think a plain black poster with the title font in the centre would suffice and be far more appropriate.
I still think the cinematography could have been a little bit better, mainly in the (um...) second half. Also, not necessarily a complaint, but unlike Adam & Paul, or 2014's Frank (which is awesome if you haven't seen it) I don't feel Abrahamson's identity anywhere in the film. The style felt slightly robotic, especially comparing it to the flavour of his previous films. I'm still kinda surprised he managed to nab a Best Director nomination. Not that Room was anything close to a comedy, but I still don't piece them two and two.
Much like Blue Is The Warmest Colour, or last year's The Theory of Everything, I feel like the two main actors have a much stronger presence leading the movie than the director did.
Like I said though, that isn't really a complaint, just something I noticed. |
Yeah and I agree with all those points. As the director I give him full marks for bringing out absolutely brilliant performances in his 2 leads. Especially hard to get that out of a child, no matter how much of a prodigy he may be. And I agree Tremblay stole the show, although Larson was phenomenal. But yeah him as the main man I didn't get his personality out if what I saw either. It was pretty much totally straight forward stuff.
I have to get back to "Frank". Something happened and I was interrupted about 30 minutes in. But it was intriguing those entire 30 or so minutes.
As for the logo, yeah I was thinking that was a nice, simple, perfect logo for the film. simply "Room" fully enclosed. And that would have been better. Or maybe a picture of the window with the frost and leaf. Something simple.
Also, I like to think of the film as somewhat a philosophical parallel to Plato's Allegory of the Cave in which the boy's reality is completely room and the window and, more specifically, the TV. The TV being somewhat analogous to the shadows observed by the people chained to the cave wall. I think it's brilliant. _________________ -Ryan

Everything about The Theory of Everything besides the two leads was terrible. Directing, supporting cast, especially the screenplay.
Not a 2015 film, just had to get that off my chest.

Yeah
It's a shame, cause it could have been a really decent film. Redmayne and Jones deserved a lot better. I even think Thewlis was slightly off from his normal quality.
The soundtrack was pretty decent too though.
Which reminds me, don't forget about the soundtrack list _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

It's his worst other than Death Proof, not bad but overlong and doesn't have Tarantino's usual lit quality that makes him one of the best

I liked The Hateful Eight. A lot. It's brainless, but it's quite enjoyable. It takes the pieces of a 50's western + snow + Clue + Tarantino. Everyone's performance is really good too. Particularly Walton Goggins and Tim Roth, both of which don't seem to get as much credit as they deserve. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
