Okay, opening day. The most magical time of the year. The smells of spring and the sounds of baseball.

Lets chat.

As a Cards fan I assure you the Cards will be my main muse here.

I LOVE BASEBALL SO MUCH.

I'm an Orioles fan and have been all of my life. Camden Yards is like a second home to me.

I'm working at Coors Field this year, so I get great prices (free) for all 81 home games!. I love baseball...and I love my Rockies! Pitching looks better, and they made some nice changes to the lineup. A lot of people are picking them to finish last, but if the starting rotation holds up, I could be delusional, but I think they will win 92 games and make the playoffs.

Also...August 17th. Todd Helton's #17 will be retired.

Go Rox!

Yeah in general I feel that Red Sox, Dodgers and even Cards fans are perhaps setting themselves up for disappontment. Especially Sox fans. I think all those tes will likely not come out of the gate clicking. The reason I say sox in particular is 1. I thoroughly dislike them and 2. They basically just stays the exact same as far as I can see in the offseason. I just don't think they'll continue to be dominant.

@rocky, well yeah the Orioles are a team I have always liked, and mildly supported. I wish them the best (actually second best). I think they'll be really solid this year - 89-92 win season. And I know what you mean on Comden Yard. I'm not the same with the new Busch. It's a baseball Mecca of sorts but I've only been there a handful of times in last few years cuz I've been so busy. It's heavenly for sure.

@roman, I think you may be a little delusional. But the Rockies are a team that is being mighty underrated and written off. I think they'll probably end up with a winning record. And Helton is, hands down, the most criminally underrated player I can think of these last 15-20 years. He's been so consistently great and somehow he's flown under the radar almost his entire career. He is one of this last generation's Greats.

There's something I really admire about the whole "all-American sport" thing baseball has going for it, and I get a little teary-eyed whenever I hear 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game'. I just have this romanticised view of it I guess, dads taking their kids along, everyone drinking beer and eating hot dogs, the really cool shirts they wear (for real, baseball jerseys are dope - such a classic shape). I always think it would be amazing to go to a game, to be part of the great American pastime if only for one afternoon.

Then I remember that it's just glorified rounders.

Oh man, I sure hope so. I genuinely hate the Red Sox, it's awful. I miss when they were just the lovable losers of the AL East, but now they're just about as obnoxious as the Yankees are, if not even more so.

Side note: I hate being in the AL East.

do you hate joy?

Yes it is an "all-american" sport adpoted from the styles of previous games. It's still the best their is and nobody can convince me otherwise.

Although it sucks to keep seeing the Mariners fail miserably year after year, and even with the turgid Cano contract I expect another underachieving year

Haha, that last sentence was just a joke. I would genuinely love to go to a baseball match. Unfortunately I've only ever watched it whilst really fucking stoned, so I haven't quite figured out how it works. If only the time difference didn't mean that it was exclusively on during the time of the day when I'm most likely to be stoned.

oh no worries, Americans are hardly innocent when it comes to talking smack about other beloved national sports (like soccer real Football)

Unfortunately Baseball's reach is still pretty limited. Outside the US, Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezula and Japan it has only a small cult popularity, although it's influence seems to be growing in some other central american countries as well as Netherlands and Italy in europe & South Korea in Asia.

I guess for predictions this year (X for wild card)

AL
A's
Tigers
Devil Rays
X- Rangers
x- Royals (for all my Kansas City friends)

NL
Dodgers
Cardinals
Braves
x- Nationals
x- Giants

and Ill take the A's over the Dodgers in the world series. Always gotta go with shut down pitching
