Strangely, I think it's very solid. I much prefer it to Bookends, for example. Nothing life-changing, but nice and catchy pop-folk tunes, featuring more than decent songwriting and vocals. Also, doesn't "bookends" mean the two things you use to hold books? Because if yes, then this album has one of the best pair of bookends tracks of the 60s.

It's a great album for easy listening. If you love Simon & Garfunkel then you'll definitely love this.

It was from here on that they say "the rest is history". I cannot overstate Simon & Garfunkels work. Nor can I overstate Simons solo career! He is just consistently brilliant!

The title track was what got me into this duo, but this album was hard to find at local record stores at the time. I actually bought and listened to the three that came after 'Sounds of Silence' before I finally found this one months later. After being blown away by PSR&T, Bookends, and BOTW, I didn't think SoS could match those three. I was wrong. I was pleasantly surprised one last time by S&G.

the intro and outro tracks (the bookends if you will  ) are the only decent tracks here. really have a hard time thinking of S&G as much more than a very commercial '60s folk-ish duo that blew up way more than they should have *slinks back to corner before Norman hits me with the newspaper*

Most of it is just fairly decent folk, but (as Satie pointed out) the opening and ending tracks stand way apart from the others, two of the finest rock songs of that weird bit of the 60's between the early Beatles stuff and when "classic rock" as we know it REALLY took off.
