Never been crazy about Deceit or My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, but Slates and that TV Personalities album are bloody brilliant, as are some of 1981 singles choices (Josef K, REM, Flipper). 1971 contains Maggot Brain and Songs of Love and Hate, and the singles are all excellent, but I find it difficult to get too excited about The Mahavishnu Orchestra in particular. Difficult choice, currently leaning towards 1981 but I'll revisit some of the albums before I make any decision.

Was 1971 meant to only have four albums?

Voting 81. Great team, and I have no taste for Mahavishnu Orchestra.

5 albums verse 4... Think

I think 1981 just overpowers here, and it gets my vote. The singles are about equal though (maaaybe a slight edge to 71).

'71 has some of my favorite stuff ever. Songs Of Love And Hate is ridiculous, Maggot Brain is fantastic, and Inner Mounting Flame is by far my favorite Mahavishnu Orchestra album (why doesn't anyone like them?). '81 has some great stuff, but that '71 team is awesome.

Spoon is a great song, but apparently it was released and recorded in 1972, not 1971.

Discogs and RYM both say it's 1971, and I think they're marginally more trustworthy sources than Wikipedia, given that they're largely populated and updated by rabid music geeks.
