inb4 immeasurable amounts of hate
This might be my favorite Strokes album, at least it's close to Is This It in my opinion. The songs are just awesome and fun. The badass helicopter guitar in Juicebox to go along with the sweet opening riff, the vocally impressive Vision Of Division, it's great, classic Strokes. But everybody hates it, and that's always confused me. It's certainly better than their last two albums and I'd say better than Room On Fire too. _________________ 2023 Chart

Yup. I never totally got it. While I don't think it's as strong as their first two records, it was at least nice to see them change it up a bit with good results. It's far better than the last two turds. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Actually my least favorite of theirs pretty easily. I mean, I can fucking dig You Only Live Once or Red Light any day, and Ize of the World and Electricityscape aren't bad at all, but for the most part the rest of the album just plays like failed experiments. I can't stand Vision of Division or Juicebox for the most part, Julian just shouldn't do the screamy shit, it sounds awful.
It used to have a place in my heart, but yeah this album has some shit on it. I actually enjoyed Comedown Machine pretty decently though.

Completely agree with you (the only one it seems), I never understood the hate for this album. I'd also rank it as their second best. "You Only Live Once" is a great opener, and songs like "Razorblade" and "Vision Of Divison" seem impossible not to enjoy. It does let up a bit towards the end, but really every album they've put out since their debut has lulls. I really thought they showed some nice range here, with many more hits than misses.

This is Coldplay Theory in action right here. New band has a first great two records, slips up on their 3rd/4th, and absolutely bombs from 4th/5th onwards. I don't know why this always happens.

It's really inconsistent, but overall I think it's alright, frankly. I'll always skip 'Ask Me Anything', and there's another couple of crap songs on there, but I find the good stuff is good enough to make up for it somewhat.
