Remember this being really cool. I recall using this as exhibit A to my dad to try (in vain) to get him to stop dissing rap and hip hop and recognize some of the music and how creative they are. Specifically I always had it mixed up, so Andre's "The Love Below" was how I started the album. Maybe because of this "The Love Below" has always been by far my preferred of the 2.
Andre had such a "all over the place" brilliance! He reminded me of Prince in that regard. Just willing to tackle any genre and make it quirky and his own. _________________ -Ryan

While I personally feel that Outkast was at their best when Andre and Big Boi's personalities were complementing each other over the course of a record, this double album is still quite incredible. It's been far too long since I last plunged knee deep in an Outkast obsession. I think it's time again. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

I feel that this is an album I should hear, but... it's so damn long!!! Even the considerably more concise Stankonia is way too much. Maybe later. "Hey Ya" is awesome though. _________________ Inversion Verses

Well, listen to it one half at a time! It is a double album after all.

I remember when I was just getting into hip-hop and all I would listen to was Outkast, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube. I wouldn't have listened to Cube if I hadn't listened to The Chronic 2001 first, and I wouldn't have listened to 2001 if not for Speakerboxxx, and I probably wouldn't have listened to Speakerboxxx/The Love Below if not for the crossover appeal of Hey Ya that made me check out the album.
So thanks for broadening my horizons, Andre.

Back when the album was released, The Love Below was heralded as the masterpiece but I feel with time it's became clear that Speakerboxxx is the best of the 2, Big Boi's disk has crazy beats, retaining most of what made Stankonia so great with great verses from him and verses, while if The Love Below sure has some oustanding songs (Hey Ya, Roses, Happy Valentine's Day, She Lives in my Laps) it also has a bunch of fillers and very annoying skits.
