White Pony by Deftones
I really don't like Nu-Metal, but, I can't deny that White Pony is a killer album. I don't know if I can even call it Nu-Metal, as it's way too interesting to be in the same league as degenerates like Limp Bizkit. From wispy to ruthless, it showed me that there is good in a cesspool full of wasters.

Hey! So, I want to revive this music diary for a while, so here I am doing so during the new year. I didn't know how to go about it initially, but since one of my musical resolutions was to listen to albums I should've listened to already but haven't (stuff that is in common with BEA and RYM's top 1000 (though mostly with RYM)), I thought I'd make the diary about that. This is going to be a weekly thing, with Sunday being a look-back at the albums I listened to during the week, if that makes any sense. Let's do this!
Week 1
9th January
Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
I don't listen to a whole lotta Led Zeppelin (pun very much intended), mainly because nowadays they just don't interest or resonate with me me anymore. I wouldn't call them bad, it's just that I've grown out of them. But, since I'm doing this thing, I might as well get their albums over and done with. LZII is a decent album, some songs I actually quite like on here, but there are moments where they draw ideas out for far too long and some songs just don't hold up too well. However, I don't think it's too bad.

Ride The Lightning by Metallica
Never have been a big Metallica fan. Even when I did get into more metal and started to warm up to some of their material, I wouldn't call them a favourite of mine and I thought Masters of Puppets was average. But, like with LZII, this album isn't too bad either. There are some killer songs here that makes me respect Cliff Burton for teaching the others about music theory, even if most of it didn't stick (*cough* Lars *cough). But there are also uninteresting songs that couldn't grab my attention.

Cure For Pain by Morphine
Put this on as a little relaxer and it worked fine. Lyrics are a bit lacking, but it's pretty chill.

Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles
Like with Zeppelin, I've been growing out of The Beatles for years, and this album wasn't enough to convince me to come back. Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane still hold a soft spot with me, and I really liked Blue Jay Way and Fool on the Hill, but the rest of the album is a bit naff and weird.

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
I actually quite enjoyed this. I think I've always liked Zeppelin more when they were more in their folk territory rather than their full blown rock songs. It still contains those songs, but they're much more refined. Some people say that this is the weakest of their studio work, well I quite like an underdog album, and this is so far my favourite out of their catalogue.

Welcome back to...
Last Week Tonight but instead of John Oliver changing the world as we know it, it's me talking about my shit opinions on music
Week 2
January 16th

Rust In Peace by Megadeth
This is just a lot of fun, some of the most fun I've had with a metal album and a lot more fun than I had with some of Metallica's stuff. I have this philosophy that metal albums are better when blasted through speakers, and this album is no exception. Though, I did fall asleep to this album at some point, but in the way that it was relaxing, weirdly enough. But, yeah, this is cool.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Is Stevie Wonder? Yes. Yes he is.

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
I'm continuing the Led Zeppelin journey. This was the album by them I was dreading because of the fact it was a double album. If this was me from a year or so ago, I would've thought that 80+ minutes of Zeppelin = pure torture. However, I ended up enjoying this more than I was expecting. I think some of my favourite Zeppelin songs come from this album. Though there are some significant drawbacks that hold it back from being better. For starters, Kashmir's pretty overrated and hasn't held up well (the orchestral segments sound horrendous), and the last 5 songs aren't that special. Apart from that, the rest is pretty good, surprisingly.

Houses Of The Holy by Led Zeppelin
An album by Zeppelin comprised of entirely original material? Never thought I'd see the day when they'd actually write their own songs. Jabbing aside, this is also pretty good. While there are some pretty silly experiments in the middle, the beginning and the end songs more than make up for that.

Now I'm going to aggravate people on this site by ranking what are my favourite LZ albums:
III > Houses of the Holy > IV > Physical Graffiti >>>> II >>>>>>>>> I

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
I didn't know what to expect with this album. I've seen it high on the overall a lot, so I knew there had to be something to it. And when I heard the first track, for a brief moment, I thought that this was going to be great. But, apart from that and a few interesting moments here and there, it was just kind of standard rock around this time. A bit of blues; a bit of country; a bit safe to be honest. I'm glad I listened to it, and there will definitely be songs I'll be returning to, but the rest of the album is not really my thing.

Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son by Iron Maiden
I loved Number of the Beast, so I was pretty excited to get into and like more Maiden. This was very good, but it's a different breed of Maiden than what I'm used to. But the songs still are awesome.
