Definitely feels out of nowhere. Such a shame... felt like they were at the top of the touring world. Not a clue what's going to happen now, but I imagine they'll take a hiatus. Seemed like a great guy, and exactly the sort of bandmate you'd want. He was kind of on a roll too... R&R Hall induction, new documentary, new supergroup band, upcoming Grammy performance, think the word is he even had a concert tonight. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
The newest person to go forward is country singer from the 1990s Jeff Carson. A heart attack is what took him and what's worse is his only being 58 years old. This song went all the way to #1 for him in 1995.
Foo Fighters always seem like such easy-going guys; the type of people you'd have a beer with. Taylor Hawkins especially so. I feel so bad for his wife and kids. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.
Philip Jeck has died.
Another unexpected death in experimental music.
I first met him in Austria after nervously asking him a question,
but then got to visit with him more often during the week.
Then about 6 years later, he stopped me in a restaurant called,
"Tomato Head" in Knoxville and I ended up joining him for dinner.
Online obits are available with praises galore.

I actually had a beer with Taylor a couple years ago when I worked on one of his music videos. As the interviews and articles suggest, he was fun-loving and full of energy. He'll be remembered as the drummer of the Foo Fighters, but many don't know he had his own band and side projects. Very talented guy, could sing and play several instruments. Hard to believe he's gone. Dave and Taylor were very close so my guess is the Foo Fighters will take a long break before they even think about having auditions for a new drummer.

Another Diamond in the Sky, Fitzroy “Bunny Diamond” Simpson Passes Away.
Can't post links here, but my feelings can be summed up in a paragraph that I posted
as an introduction to a three and a half hour Mixcloud mix I made a few years ago:
Quote:
While living in a town of only about 2500 people, I had a radio show on a Dallas station while in high school. Virgin Records used to send promos and handwritten letters to me when it was a very small operation. Early on, reggae played a very small part - a B. B. Seaton single would arrive, for instance, with little fanfare from me. Then, one day, a package arrived with an advance copy of The Mighty Diamonds album "Right Time" and I was absolutely floored by its sound. This was what reggae should be all about. It was definitely going to be played on my next show (before it was even officially released). Totally enraptured, I was an immediate convert - stretching all the way to today - 45 years later. The first 7 minutes of this mix is a mini-mix of excerpts from the later named Virgin "Front Line" series (1978).
