I'm down. A major problem that I personally faced is that I find it difficult to sit down and write a lot, so when I attempted to tackle post rock, a large ambiguous genre spanning multiple decades, I found the task gargantuan, and didn't bother finishing. I might suggest having the OP totally written before agreeing to do a GE. I'd like to do Chicago-Louisville post rock, glitch and process (maybe just separately), and drone and stoner doom (separately), but I'm gonna have those written before I come forward. I'd like to see some jazz GEs, but I'm not quite sure how to divide it so it's manageable quite yet. One complaint I had of other GEs is that many were a brief intro into the history and key players, and then a list of key albums; I can go to a site like allmusic for that. I'd like a brief discussion of each musician/group, their evolution in sound, an in depth discussion of history, synopses of key labels that housed those genres, as well as mentioning the user's favorite albums on the genre, and then key albums that might not necessarily be favorites. It's a lot to ask, but it's what I'd like to see. I'll come forward when I have something. I totally agree on redoing it all as well

Ok, it looks like the biggest obstacle people face with this is writing a whole bunch and having the time to do it, which I totally understand.
What if we had people do chapters, essentially? Like "Post-Rock: The Beginnings" or "Black Metal: The 80s" or whatever, that way it narrows it down a little (you get to talk about more obscure recs rather than "the essentials") and it makes it a little easier.
If people still wanna do a comprehensive overview of the entire genre, that's fine too, but if multiple people wanna do different time periods of the same genre, that might solve the length issue. _________________ 2023 Chart

Yeah I mean I spent a ridiculous amount my of time on the country blues one. And I found that doing it in chapters, first Delta, then a couple days later putting up East coast, then a couple days later Texas, etc helped me to get a bit of a product at a time out. It was more easy to tackle. Of course, mine was the ne plus ultra of would-be teacher, long winded write ups. So, I imagine for others if they don't go that route it will be even easier to manage while still being fun for everyone. _________________ -Ryan

It looks interesting, but this is a small community, so it might be an uphill battle to keep it going. Definitely keep the OPs short. People are more likely to read and discuss if they don't have to devote a lot of time to it. Also, I've seen a lot of "discussions" here turn into personal attacks, and if these threads go the same way, it will obviously discourage participation. As far as I can tell, this forum appears to be unmoderated, so members of the community would have to be proactive in discouraging that kind of thing.
