I closed the current match ups but I'm out of town and away from my computer so posting the new match ups would be a pain on my phone. I'll post those tonight. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.

There are a couple ties this week - Dopethrone/Symbolic and Aghora/Northern Star are both tied. The next vote will win each matchup. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.

I stopped posting in the threads since nobody really was participating and wanted to have a discussion any more.

I agree this was the situation, and continues to be. Of course you're on the shortlist of people with a great enough amount of insight into the genre to get conversations stimulated. When you and the rest who have the most thoughtful opinions stop posting their opinions, then of course conversation will dry up all the more. _________________ -Ryan

Final results are in!
1. Ulver - Bergtatt: et eeventyr i 5 capitler
2. Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
3. Black Sabbath - Vol 4
4. Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
Thanks to everyone who voted. I discovered quite a few albums that have been added to my regular listening; hopefully that was the case for others as well. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.

Yep good stuff. I found out about a few I was unaware of and one of the best I'd not heard before was the winner.

Ruins of Beverast's Rain Upon the Impure has the darkest, most oppressive atmosphere and makes a lot of this s*** look like gospel music, you should check it out if you can appreciate an album for themes/atmosphere like Sigur Ros's Agaetis Byrjun or Swans' Soundtracks For the Blind.

This is a vinyl rip of a reissue of Rain Upon the Impure which fixes shoddy production problems. It's awesome.
Comparing heavy metal with any form of extreme metal is silly btw. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath just don't belong in this discussion. Also, google can do much better than the first 20 random ppl who reply to this thread, just google: "best death metal albums [or bands if you prefer]" then "best black metal albums," then "best thrash metal albums." You'll learn so much more than you have here. BEA doesn't know extreme metal. Or rap for that matter. Why would those who rank all time classics against each other know anything about Morbid Angel? You only have so much time to listen to music and frankly, the guys here spend it more wisely. Not dissing.
