Ah yes the young vs the old. Glorious matchup. Almost poetic.

It's an easy choice for me, for all the reasons specified in previous matches featuring Vol 4. I suppose I see Dopethrone as a towering record. It's like Electric Wizard took a genre, distilled it, purified it of all puny aspects and then raised the volume as high as possible. It's very impressive. And there are some really beautiful artistic choices couched in this wall of doom. But Vol 4 I feel is a better, more varied and more interesting album. I can listen to it over and over and not get bored for a long time. Dopethrone at times loses my interest, and is a bit longer than I personally can stomach most of the time. Also outside of Funeralopolis, there are no individual tracks that hold a candle to about half of the songs on Vol 4.

Too bad about Welcome to Sky Valley. I like that album a lot. That was probably my second favorite album in the Elite 8. But now Vol 4 is the one left I really love. It gets better every time. Dopethrone is solid, but it isn't really my thing. Too long, too slow, too distorted. I get why people dig it, but I get bored after three to four tracks. Vol 4 has never bored me. It's a more diverse album. The songs kick ass and get the blood pumping. Black Sabbath all the way!
